Kacey Musgraves' Next Album to Be an Interscope-UMG Nashville Release - Variety

Kacey Musgraves ’ next album, due out later this year, will be jointly released via Interscope Records and UMG Nashville. The partnership will find the labels collaborating on marketing, radio promotion and international marketing for the six-time Grammy winner’s new music.

Musgraves’ most recent album, “Golden Hour,” released in 2018 via MCA Nashville, won four Grammy Awards, including album of the year, and landed her on most major critics’ consensus 10-best lists for the year. The album’s expansive sound substantially broadened her appeal across genres — resulting, in 2019, in Musgraves being the first woman to play both, the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals on successive weekends — while her core country music support remained firm, as “Golden Hour” also picked up album of the year honors at the CMA Awards and ACM Awards.

Signed by the venerable Luke Lewis, she released her debut, “Same Trailer Different Park,” in 2013; by the time her second album, “Pageant Material,” came out in 2015, she was well established as a concert headliner. Both opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and garnered raves from critics.

“Kacey is one of the most powerful storytellers in music today, a true albums artist who creates potent song collections that are timeless,” said Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) chairman and CEO John Janick in announcing the alignment. “We are truly delighted to have her as part of our Interscope Records family and look forward to working alongside the UMG Nashville team and her manager Jason Owen to deliver this important project to audiences around the world.”

Added IGA vice chairman Steve Berman: “Kacey’s unique approach to making music and her overall boundless creative presentation is innovative and absolutely exciting. We are so happy to welcome her into our Interscope family.”

According to people with knowledge of the deal, the partnership is geared at expanding Musgraves’ reach as an international artist and leveraging IGA’s global presence to help achieve that goal. The appeal to Musgraves’ management team, led by Sandbox Entertainment’s Owen, was in IGA’s reputation for launching a record or project. Also, Owen and Janick have long wanted to work together.

“I have never worked with anyone whose cultural reach is so vast,” offered UMG Nashville chairman and CEO Mike Dungan . “This artist and her music have thrived in so many diverse environments. Kacey, the music and the career deserve the broadest base of experience and expertise. We have discussed some type of cross-label partnership for her music for a couple of years now, and this is the perfect fit. We’re excited to partner with our friends at Interscope on the next chapter of Kacey Musgraves.”

“Kacey’s music has never had boundaries,” said UMG Nashville president Cindy Mabe. “Her clever songwriting, adept storytelling, vulnerable and real emotional delivery, and her overall ‘take me or leave me’ spirit have translated through genre, time, space and culture. She simply connects. As we begin to set up her new music, it made sense to once again push the boundaries to reach more fans around the world as we continue to serve the fans who have been here from the beginning.”

No details have been officially announced about the new album, but in a recent Rolling Stone cover story documenting the early stages of making the record, she did drop a few bread crumbs. That article revealed that Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, co-producers of “Golden Hour,” are back for the new project, which could augur a return to what she described as the “galactic country” of the last award-winner. Describing the stylistic variations on the new album, she told the magazine, “Looking at the list of songs, we have some that venture into, like, a Bill Withers land. We’ve got that synth stuff that we always loved. And we’ve got some Eagles or America territory. There’s a little bit of a dance vibe.”

Leslie Jordan on Wanting to Collaborate With Kacey Musgraves for Second Gospel Album

Leslie Jordan has a dream collaborator when it comes to his gospel music. ET spoke with the actor at the ACM Awards on Sunday, where he talked about his new gospel album, Company’s Comin', and having lunch with Kacey Musgraves .

Jordan released Company's Comin' , a collection of classic and original gospel hymns, earlier this month. He talked to ET's Rachel Smith about how he landed collaborations with legends like Dolly Parton and Eddie Vedder.

"Well, the whole last year I did an album which I must tell you, I got off the bus in 1982 downtown Hollywood and I wanted to be an actor, you know?" he shares. "And all of that has happened, but nowhere in that dream was oh, recording a gospel album. The way it happened, I won't go into, but it just is amazing and I recorded an old gospel album and I went on direct messages and asked everybody I could to do it with me -- Dolly, Tanya Tucker, Chris and Morgane Stapleton, ... Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder."

Jordan said he definitely plans on releasing a second album and would love to collaborate with Musgraves.

"Oh my god, I got to have lunch today with Kacey Musgraves and ... and I thought, gosh, you know, but I didn't bring it up," he says. "And listen, over on the other side was Fancy Hagood. And I thought, wouldn't he be fun? I mean, just people I meet, it's gotta be something, it can't just be somebody the producers come and go, 'Here,' and I don't know them. You know, it's gotta be fun and so we've already planned on a second one."

Jordan presented the Best Duo award at the ACMs that aired on CBS on Sunday and was introduced by none other than Parton herself. The Will & Grace actor wasn't shy with ET about gunning for an ACM award next year.

"They said, you know it's too late to get a nomination this year and I said, 'Well, I'll go out there and kick up a little dust, you know, I'll open the door for next year.'"

How Country Stars Managed To Stay In Shape During The Pandemic

The pandemic has been tough for many of us who try to stay in shape. With fitness centers shut down for months and the endless opportunities for home snacking, staying fit during quarantine proved to be a challenge. However, the top names in country music made it a point to not let go of their healthy habits .

So how did they do it? The secret lies in exercises and healthy eating, along with a lot of mindfulness.

As the co-founder of the Fit52 workout app, Underwood was determined to avoid the quarantine 15. "I tried to focus on keeping myself healthy, rather than sitting on my rear end at home and snacking all day," Underwood, 38, said of sticking to her mostly vegan diet and HIIT sessions during the pandemic.

Her advice for anyone looking for a reset? "It is a marathon. It's not a sprint. Don't do anything you can't see yourself doing a year from now." Noted!

"I just try to be nice to myself and do what's good for me," she explained. "And when I don't, I start again the next day."

Olivia Rodrigo Compares Debut Album 'Sour' To Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged

With two massive hits in her back pocket, Olivia Rodrigo proves she’s a force to be reckoned with. And what’s even more evident is her knack for hyper-specific lyricism. “drivers license” and “deja vu” are only the beginning—two samples of her forthcoming debut studio record, Sour , expected May 21 through Geffen Records.

“It’s reminiscent of sort of the albums like Jagged Little Pill that I love. I’m super critical of everything, but I’m really happy with this album. And that doesn’t happen very often where I feel completely sure,” she continues. “I mean, obviously you don’t feel completely sure of anything, but I really feel like it’s the best that I can do right now, and I’m real proud of that. In a year, the best that I can do is going to be something totally different, and that’s just the cool thing about putting out music when you’re a teenager.”

There is certainly a kinship Rodrigo feels to another global superstar, who also got their start as a teenager: Taylor Swift. “I totally grew up seeing myself in her. She makes every hard-to-process feeling for me easier to understand through her songwriting. I really look up to her just as a person, as well,” she says. “I think it’s no small feat that she has had this insane career stretching 15 years, and she’s managed to keep her sanity and her tenderness and her kindness throughout all of it. I just think she’s just such an inspiration, not only as a musician, but as a person.

“She’s such a brilliant storyteller, and that’s just so inspiring to me. I think that’s such a level of creativity that is just so genius,” she adds. “It’s just so genius to be able to kind of create those intricate vivid stories from nothing. Literally every album she’s made is a classic album that I feel people are going to listen to for a hundred years. She’s just immortal.”

In the lengthy conversation, Rodrigo also discusses some unexpected musical influences, including country legends Johnny Cash and Tanya Tucker, as well as singer-songwriter icon Carole King, a love of Kacey Musgraves, and her relationship with her parents. Listen to the episode here .

Mankato native is first female audio engineer nominated for ACM Awards - StarTribune.com

On Sunday, Gena Johnson's childhood fascination with recording equipment is taking her all the way to the Academy of Country Music Awards in Nashville — and maybe into the history books, too.

Johnson, 31, is the first woman ever nominated as best audio engineer in the ACM Awards . The nomination caps off what has already clearly been several winning years working in the studio with such big-name acts as Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, Ashley Monroe and the late John Prine.

"This nomination is definitely bigger than I am," Johnson, 31, said by phone from Nashville on Friday between mixing sessions for upcoming records by Isbell and Prine.

"I recognize I don't stand alone, and it has a lot to do with the amazing people I've been lucky enough to be working next to."

"Everyone at HTC is incredibly proud of Gena," said Hennepin Tech faculty member Matt Holmes, who remembered that Johnson "impressed us with her tenacity and her passion."

But she did not fully realize how rare it was for women to work as audio engineers — the technical gurus who operate recording machinery and fine-tune studio acoustics.

Some of her favorite artists happened to be ones who employed women in that pivotal role, including Prince, who famously worked with Susan Rogers on his heyday '80s albums; and Sheryl Crow, who recorded with Trina Shoemaker.

"There are a lot of women before me I looked up to," Johnson said, "not necessarily because they were women, but more because they just worked on some great albums."

She relocated to Nashville in 2012 soon after her graduation(s). Among her earliest jobs were work with singer Ben Folds, producer/engineer Michael Wagener (Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne) and at the legendary RCA Studio A on Music Row.

The Costly Divorces of Country Music Stars

Singer LeAnn Rimes was just 19 years old when she married Dean Sheremet, himself only 21 years old at the time, according to Country Fan Cast. They married in 2002 and divorced in 2009, in a swirl of rumors about Rimes' infidelity with Eddie Cibrian, whom she later married in 2011. The singer has a net worth of $10 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Though their divorce settlement was private, Us Weekly reported that Sheremet, who initiated the divorce, asked Rimes for spousal support plus all attorney fees and costs. They tried to sell their custom-built mansion in 2009 for $7.45 million but weren't able to find a buyer until 2012, selling it for only $4.1 million.

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert both have had successful music careers. Lambert has earned a record-breaking number of Academy of Country Music Awards and her net worth is valued at $60 million. Shelton, a chart-topping singer and co-host of the musical reality show "The Voice," is worth $100 million. The couple met in 2005, dated for six years, married for four and broke up in July 2015 while surrounded by rumors of infidelity. According to Us Weekly, they had signed a prenup, though specifics are not public record, and plan to split their shared assets. The magazine reports that Lambert took their Nashville property while Shelton got their Oklahoma ranch.

Reba McEntire is more than just a country singer — she's a country music icon, who has sold over 90 million records globally in her career. She married her manager of nine years, Narvel Blackstock, in 1989, had one son with him, Shelby, and then they divorced amicably in 2015. McEntire, who has a net worth of over $95 million, allegedly settled with Blackstock for a mind-boggling $47.5 million.

A joint statement about their separation read: "Despite this being the end of their marriage, they continue to support each other. They have worked together for 35 years and will continue to do so."

Powerhouse country singer Shania Twain, who has an astonishing net worth of $400 million, married her husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange in 1993, only six months after they first met. The couple has one son, Eja, and appeared happily married for fourteen years. In 2008, Twain found out her husband was cheating with her close friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud. They divorced in 2010. In 2011, Twain shocked everyone by marrying Thiébaud's ex-husband, Frederic. While their divorce settlement was sealed, Lange, a record producer, was already worth around $225 million, so divorce was unlikely to leave him broke.

Garth Brooks and his college sweetheart, Sandy Mahl, married in 1986 and divorced in 2000 after 14 years married. They have three daughters. The divorce is considered one of the most expensive, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Brooks, who is worth $400 million, allegedly paid Mahl $125 million in their divorce settlement. Brooks married country artist Trisha Yearwood in 2005.
