Justin Bieber & More to Reap Millions in HYBE Deal for Ithaca Holdings | Billboard

Justin Bieber performs with Ariana Grande at Coachella Stage during the 2019 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival on April 21, 2019 in Indio, Calif.

HYBE's  $1.05 billion deal  to buy   Scooter Braun 's Ithaca Holdings will  award  Braun's artists and staff  with  more than $40 million  in  equity, including shares to Ariana Grande , Justin Bieber , J Balvin  and  Demi Lovato ,  according to a corporate filing from HYBE, the  publicly traded  company  formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment.

A  total  of 39 people, including Braun and Big Machine Label Group CEO Scott Borchetta , will receive shares totaling  about  $ 161  million , based o n the current exchange rate.   Braun will get 462,380 ($86.2   million), while Borchetta will receive 166,537 ($31 .1  million); and Grande and Bieber will each receive 53,557 shares, or almost $11.0 million apiece , the company filing states.

Balvin will get 21,423 shares ($4.1 million) and Lovato will receive 5,355 shares ($1.06 million) . The remaining 33 individuals listed are a mix of artists, executives and existing Ithaca shareholders.

This isn't the first time  artists have received shares from  HYBE .   When  the company   went public last October on the Korean stock exchange,  the seven members of  BTS  each  got shares valued at $8 million .  But sources say the equity being award ed to Ithaca 's  artists  is coming out of Braun's stake.

HYBE, the company behind powerhouse K-pop group BTS, said Friday (April 2) that it would  pay $1.05 billion in cash and shares to acquire  Ithaca Holdings ,  in a move   designed to help the  Korean company  establish a strong U.S. presence in music and entertainment while also heightening its profile for American financial investors.  According to terms of the  deal, which is expected to close in about a month, Braun will join the board of  HYBE  and Borchetta will remain CEO of Big Machine Label Group.

The deal marries Big H it  Entertainment 's  management company and labels with Ithaca's entertainment holdings ,  which include the Big Machine label, the SB Projects management company and its interests in film and gaming through Mythos Studios and 100 Thieves Gaming.

Since going public in October, HYBE has leveraged the global sway of BTS to do a series of acquisitions of smaller labels, joint ventures and strategic partnerships with South Korean and U.S. labels, including with Universal Music Group. The deals have brought the company steadily closer to the U.S. market and to founder and CEO Bang Si-Hyuk 's goal to build HYBE into an international entertainment conglomerate.

In February, HYBE and Universal announced the Korean company would  create  a joint label with Geffen Records and co-produce an  American Idol -like show to search for the next global K-pop boy band .  The new label will be run out of Los Angeles, where HYBE plans to open a newly expanded  U.S.  office later this year .

Justin Bieber addresses controversy about featuring MLK Interlude on new album | Fox News

Justin Bieber recently released his sixth studio album, titled " Justice ," and caught some backlash for including a Dr. Martin Luther King Interlude .

Bieber spoke to Bieber Nation co-founder Kristal Terrell on the app Clubhouse about being labeled as a "white savior."

"Being Canadian… they didn't teach us about Black history. It was just not a part of our education system," the musician explained [via Billboard ].

Bieber admitted he made "insensitive jokes when I was a kid" and was part of the problem "because I just didn't know better."

"I want to keep growing and learning about just all social injustices and what it looks like for me to be better, what it looks like for my friends to be better," the "Yummy" singer said. "And I know I have a long way to go. I love that when people are listening to my album, these conversations are coming up and they're like, 'Well, how is he going from Martin Luther King into a love song?'"

Bieber added, "I'm not trying to make a connection between me and Martin Luther King. That's why I never try to talk about social injustice or I didn't want to be the one to talk about it because I just have so much more learning to do."

He just wanted to "amplify" the civil rights leader's "incredibly touching speech" and get conversations started about injustice.

Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Dr. King, took to Twitter to support Bieber's use of her father's words in his album.

RS Charts: Justin Bieber' 'Justice' Propel Him to Top of Artists 500 - Rolling Stone

In this image released on November 22, Justin Bieber performs onstage for the 2020 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on November 22, 2020 in Los Angeles, California.

Justin Bieber has reached Number One on the Rolling Stone Artists 500 chart for his first time following the arrival of his new album, Justice .

The pop star jumped from Number 22 to the top spot, pulling in 173.1 million streams for the week of March 19th through March 25th (Bieber’s previous peak position was Number Two, which he reached last February). Along with topping the Artists 500, Justice landed at Number One on the Top 200 albums chart while the track “Peaches” bowed at Number One on the Top 100 Songs chart , making Bieber the first artist to rule all three major charts since Ariana Grande last October.

On the RS 200, Justice moved 146,000 album-equivalent units thanks primarily to 138.4 million song streams (in reaching Number One, Bieber also finally dethroned country star Morgan Wallen, who’d been dominating the RS 200 for months now). Meanwhile, Bieber’s collaboration with Giveon and Daniel Caeser, “Peaches,” pulled in 26.8 million streams to land at Number One on the RS 100.

The Rolling Stone Artists 500 chart ranks the most-streamed artists of the week in the United States, taking into account audio streams across an artist’s entire catalog during the tracking period. The chart does not include passive listening such as terrestrial radio or digital radio. The Artists 500 is updated daily, and each week Rolling Stone finalizes and publishes an official version of the chart, covering the seven-day period ending the previous Thursday.

Coming in behind Bieber was Drake, who picked up 150.5 million song streams as he continued to ride the success of his recent three-track Scary Hours EP. Taylor Swift landed at Number Three with 101. Million streams, Juice WRLD at Four with 96.2 million and Wallen fell to Five with 95.5 million.

Elsewhere, Lana Del Rey jumped from Number 116 to Number 31, picking up 38.1 million song streams as her new album, Chemtrails Over the Country Club , premiered at Number Two on the RS 200. Singer DDG reached Number 276 on the RS 500, breaking the top 300 for the first time following the release of his new album, Die 4 Respect , and Australian rapper Masked Wolf cracked the top 200, reaching Number 176.

Justin Bieber Lands First Streaming Songs No. 1 as Lead Artist in Five Years | Billboard

For the first time since 2016, Justin Bieber is back at No. 1 on Billboard 's Streaming Songs chart as a lead artist.

"Peaches," featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon , debuts atop the list dated April 3 with 30.6 million U.S. streams in the March 19-25 tracking period, according to MRC Data.

His last No. 1 before "Peaches" was a doozy: 16-week ruler "Despacito," whose lead artists are Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee ; until 2019, it was the longest-running No. 1 in Streaming Songs' history.

Bieber's five No. 1s slot him into sole possession of the second-most rulers in chart history, behind Drake with 10.

Meanwhile, "Peaches" is the first Streaming Songs leader for both Caesar and Giveon. It's Caesar's first Streaming Songs entry, while Giveon's previous best had been Drake's No. 6-peaking "Chicago Freestyle," on which he's featured, in May 2020.

Concurrently, as previously reported, "Peaches" debuts at No. 1 on the multi-metric Billboard Hot 100.

In all, nine titles from Bieber's latest album, Justice , reach Streaming Songs, with "Peaches" joined in the top 10 by "Hold On" (No. 9, 16 million streams).

LISTEN: Justin Bieber Drops Justice Deluxe With Uzi, DaBaby

If you're still looking for justice on Justin Bieber's Justice , well, you won't find much more on the deluxe version the singer dropped on March 26. The "triple chucks deluxe" version, named for the shoes, adds six more songs to the album — all of which pretty much seem to be about Bieber's wife, Hailey, with no more Martin Luther King Jr. speeches thrown in between. The deluxe album is also packed with features, including Lil Uzi Vert, DaBaby, Quavo, and Tori Kelly — along with Jaden Smith, over a decade after the pair first worked together on "Never Say Never." But the biggest attraction still may be Bieber delivering the line "every kiss is whoa." Needless to say, required listening.

Justin Bieber Drops Surprise EP 'Freedom' - Variety

Justin Bieber shocked fans on Sunday with the unexpected release of a six-track EP, titled “Freedom.”

Bieber announced the drop on his social media platforms a little before 3:30 P.T., simply writing: “Freedom on all platforms.” The project’s artwork is also quite simple, featuring a Notes app screenshot with the word “Freedom” typed out (and very low battery charge).

The EP’s tracks all contain collaborations, except one. They are as follows: “Freedom” with BEAM, “All She Wrote” featuring Brandon Love and Chandler Moore, “We’re In This Together,” “Where You Go I Follow” featuring Pink Sweats, Chandler Moore and Judah Smith, “Where Do I Fit In” featuring Tori Kelly, Chandler Moore and Judah Smith and “Afraid to Say,” featuring Lauren Walters.

Bieber just released his sixth studio album, “Justice,” on March 19. The record debuted at No. 1 on the Rolling Stone album chart last Monday, finally knocking Morgan Wallen from his 11-week reign. “Peaches,” Bieber’s fourth single off of “Justice,” also debuted at No. 1 on the song chart.

Overall, “Justice” debuted with 146,000 album units, and streams for the album totaled at over 138.4 million on March 29. Bieber also released a deluxe version of the album on March 26, which features an extra six songs.

In his review of “Justice,” Variety ‘s Chris Willman wrote: “Bieber’s vocal performances have never been stronger. It’s not exactly a unique trick, but when he glides from feathery to falsetto in ‘Off My Face’ (an early track on the album that’s just him and acoustic guitar), it’s hard to think of any male star right now who can do it better.”
