Before superstar sisters Beyoncé and Solange embarked on their own successful careers, the younger Knowles tested the waters for herself while staying in the family business.
Season 2 of E! True Hollywood Story will premiere its next episode, "Star Sisters," on Saturday (April 10) -- which conveniently falls on National Siblings Day -- about the celebrity sister bond between the Knowles sisters as well as Britney & Jamie Lynn Spears and Miley & Noah Cyrus .
Billboard is sharing an exclusive clip focusing on Beyoncé and Solange and how the latter was often overshadowed by the success of her big sister. While Beyoncé took flight with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child , one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, she took Solange under her wing to become one of DC's backup dancers.
"I remember meeting a young girl and I remember asking someone, 'How is she here? She's really young, she's a kid.' And one of the other dancers said, 'That's Beyoncé's sister Solange,'" recalls choreographer Brian Friedman, who worked on Destiny's Child's "Survivor" performance at the 2001 Soul Train Awards, where they won the Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year – Female. (Coincidentally, Jay-Z won the same award in the male category that night.)
"It was like, 'Oh, OK, let's see what she's got.' But Solange could dance. That was the thing. She was a talented girl who just so happened to be the little sister of a massive star."
At age 14, Solange ended up replacing an injured Rowland when DC opened up for Christina Aguilera during her 2000 tour and began working on her debut album Solo Star after being signed to their father Mathew Knowles' Music World Entertainment label with Columbia Records. The lead single "Feelin' You (Part II)," featuring N.O.R.E. , ended up becoming her first hit on Billboard 's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles Sales chart, reaching No. 3 in 2003.
Watch an exclusive clip of the "Star Sisters" episode before it airs Saturday at 11:00 p.m. ET on E! below.

Voices of Unity: 'Letting out your inner Beyonce'
But how to express that frustration and hope for change was a particular challenge for a group of young women with the Buck Out Cleveland Dance Company.
For the young women in Buck Out Cleveland, the desire for change that exploded in 2020 had them looking for one thing…Freedom.
And that need for freedom from the strife of the world became a video…an outlet for young women who see dance as not only a form of expression but as a way to be fearless.
Helping to nurture fearless women is what Buck Out Cleveland is about: A way to help young women grow personally in confidence and strength so that they can meet the challenges of the future.
"For us it was important for us to use our art and how we feel with our frustrations and the girls really came and gave the ideas and they gave the suggestions and they worked hard to put that piece together in little under a month and they really put their passion and heart into that project,” Buck Out Cleveland Founder LaChanee Hipps said.
The project has been viewed thousands of times and for the young women who helped to create they say they hope people understand that this was about lifting up the spirit and helping people realize that there is common ground for change.
“It had so much emotion it’s like you could feel the emotion though the screen on the tv, and I didn’t expect to feel that much emotion through the video.”
She says dance was something she always enjoyed but being a part of this group for four years has opened eyes to new possibilities.
A big part of the Buck Out Cleveland mission is to help bridge the gap between higher education opportunities at historically black colleges and universities and students in Northeast Ohio.

PHOTOS: Teen-built robot Beyonce puts a ring on virtual robotics competition – Vancouver
While many spent the long weekend soaking up the sun, a team of high school students were hard at work at Vancouver Island Tech Park taking part in a virtual robotics competition against other teams from B.C. and Washington with their robot, Beyonce.
On April 3 the FIX IT Robotics team – a team of students from across Greater Victoria – began running matches with the robot they’ve been working on since September.
Together with their alliance partners who conferenced in virtually, the teens strategized, executed and uploaded their completed matches.
Today, the @FIXIT3491 Robotics team – made up of high school students from across #yyj – took part in the FIRST Tech Challenge virtually with their robot, Beyoncé, from the Vancouver Island Tech Park. Matches included various ring tosses — hence the robot's name. @saanichnews pic.twitter.com/HecFt8T4NH
Ines Khouider, a Grade 12 student at St. Margaret’s school, has been a programmer on the FIX IT team for four years. She became interested in robots and engineering in middle school and “looked up to the older robotics kids” on the FIX IT team who ran workshops for younger students like herself. After learning that her high school didn’t have a robotics team, she joined the community team which, before the pandemic, met in the evenings at the Victoria Makerspace at the tech park.
The Saturday competition, the local FIRST Tech Challenge, was one in a series the team will take part in before the season champions are announced on May 15.
This year’s game, called Ultimate Goal, was sponsored by the Star Wars Foundation Force for Change and required a robot that can shoot rings at a “tower goal,” make “power shots” and then score “wobble goals,” explained Ishaan Kareer, a Grade 11 student from Central Saanich who attends Stelly’s Secondary. The ring tossing led to the team’s bot being named after Beyonce.
The team took part in 12, three-round matches on Saturday – each requiring the robot to complete tasks autonomously and via remote control, Kareer said.
Normally, matches take place in person, but with COVID-19, the game was adapted to be played remotely, explained team coach Christine Nicholls.
Beverly Hills home from "The Godfather," Beyoncé music video on sale
The Mediterranean-style home is being sold for $89.75 million, a reduction of nearly $30 million from last month's price and significantly lower than its $195 million asking price in 2016. The sale is by order of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court after the homeowner, attorney Leonard Ross, racked up over $50 million in debt on the property, according to the Los Angeles Times .
Listed as one of Los Angeles' most iconic homes and "anchored in American Legend," the exterior of the house was used in "The Godfather", as well as "The Bodyguard" and Beyoncé's "Black is King" music film . The sale of the house is subject to court confirmation.
"There's so many rooms that are world-class," Gary Gold of Hilton & Hyland Real Estate told USA TODAY. Gold is one of three realtors selling the house, alongside Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates and Zizi Pak of Rodeo Realty.
Located in the famous 90210 zip code, the private property has the main house and two guest apartments on 3.5 acres of land. The main house has eight bedrooms and 15 bathrooms within its 29,000-square-feet. It features 22-foot hand-painted ceilings, a two-story paneled library, two screening rooms, entertaining areas that can accommodate 1,000 guests and an art deco nightclub with parts from Hugh Hefner's nightclub Touch.
A billiards room also has original herringbone floors and a stone fireplace moved down from another famous Hearst property, the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California, over 200 miles north on the California coast. Additional features include a pool house, a two-story five-room gatehouse, terraces, fountains, a tennis court and an Olympic-size swimming pool.
Gold has sold other houses that are part of 10 most iconic houses in Los Angeles, including the Playboy Mansion and the Chartwell, but said this house, "is probably the No. 1 or No. 2 best of those 10 houses."
"This is a rare and prestigious opportunity to acquire one of the 10 most iconic homes in L.A. which you rarely see come available. This property now has a motivated seller and is priced to sell," Marguleas said in a statement sent to USA TODAY.
How Much Did Jay-Z And Beyonce Spend On Their Wedding?
Everyone loves Beyoncé and Jay-Z's romance and many want to know all about their big day. Let's take a look at the cost of their wedding.
This famous couple has so much money that even their daughter Blue Ivy is wealthy , so it definitely seems like they spent a lot of money on their wedding.
PopSugar has noted that while fans don't know the exact number that this famous couple spent on their wedding, everyone does know one big thing: the engagement ring cost $5 million .
According to Insider , other celebrity engagement rings have cost less than that. When Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney got engaged, the ring was $500,000. That's the same figure for Gwen Stefani's ring. Insider describes Beyoncé's ring as an "18-carat emerald-cut flawless center diamond."
According to Oprah Daily , Jay-Z asked Beyoncé to marry him on December 4th, 2007. That's a super special day since it's his birthday. They went to see Crazy Horse, the Parisian cabaret, afterward.
Even though this was a very pricey ring and definitely a gorgeous one, it wasn't as important to Beyonce as her love for Jay-Z. According to People , she said in 2008 in an interview with Essence magazine , "People put too much emphasis on that. It's just material and it's just silly to me. What Jay and I have is real. We've been together a long time. We always knew it would happen."
Flowers are often an important part of a wedding, but most people don't have the budget to spend millions on them. Of course, stars like Jay-Z and Beyoncé do have that kind of cash, and this sounds like one of the priciest parts of their big day.
The couple is said to have paid $8 million for their wedding flowers . According to Cheat Sheet , they had 70,000 white dendrobium orchids from Thailand that cost $8 million.
According to Brides , the wedding took place on April 4th, 2008, and the publication describes it as "a secret wedding ceremony." Since many details have been kept under wraps, an exact figure for the total cost of the wedding isn't out there.
