Per the Somali-American model's earlier comment, the diverse group of models does represent sexiness through a spectrum of cultures, ethnicities, ages and shapes, but that begs a bigger question: Where does this annual display of "sexiness" belong in the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp, and in such a socio-politically divided country?
Sports Illustrated Swimsuit: Halima Aden first to wear hijab, burkini
Aden will be the first woman to sport a hijab and burkini in the magazine, which hits newsstands on May 8, SI revealed Monday .
In a photo shared to the official Instagram page for the issue, Aden, 21, smiles while submerged in the water.
For her shoot, Aden returned to her home country of Kenya. She was born and remained at the Kakuma Refugee Camp until heading for the U.S. at the age of 7, SI reports .

"We definitely had a lot of moments where everybody was, like, breaking down crying because it's a huge moment," she recalled.

Leyna Bloom Is First Trans Woman of Color in 'Sports Illustrated'
"When I was a little kid, being mixed race, I realized that people were being mean to me or giving me privilege based off things I had no control over. When I first started modeling, what I heard the most were, 'You're a woman, you're Black, you're trans and you're poor — you're at the bottom of the food chain,'" Bloom says in a behind-the-scenes video released on Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 's Instagram.
The clip, which has since received support from the likes of Jasmine Sanders , Kelsey Merritt , Hayley Kalil and Camille Kostek , gives a glimpse into Bloom's bikinis and one-pieces for the photo shoot. Her looks range of plunging black bathing suits and rust-colored one-pieces to string bikinis with mesh coverups.
