Future Nostalgia could not have come out at a worse time. Lipa may have imagined her 11 new songs blasting through Ibiza and Miami during the summer, but the vast majority of the world's clubs remained closed throughout the year, their dance floors collecting dust.
Yet Future Nostalgia underwent a metamorphosis in quarantine. Instead of pulsating through parties and clubs, the album's songs played through phone speakers while we were on TikTok at 4 p.m. in our pajamas. This unforeseen change of situation elevated Future Nostalgia to something more than just a playlist of fun club songs — it cemented the album as a masterpiece of music that both defined and got us through quarantine.
Indeed, scientific evidence can explain this phenomenon. Studies published in the past decade have shown that nostalgia decreases feelings of loneliness and can serve as a reservoir of mental wellbeing and emotional stability. When people become nostalgic, they are revisiting positive memories that are personally meaningful to them. In doing so, they become inspired to do things that will let them reach the same level of joy they felt in the past. In other words, nostalgia causes people to become happier and more motivated to pursue future goals.
Even though most of us weren't born in the 1980s, we are well aware of the decade's aesthetic and vibe. The constant reference to, and romanticization of, the disco era in contemporary pop culture — through movies, TV shows, songs or otherwise — makes us all feel like we have a personal connection with '80s glitter and glamour. In a way, we do: What college-aged person hasn't had their parents blast ABBA or upbeat Whitney Houston songs throughout the house when they were young? As such, Future Nostalgia provides us with a blast-to-the-past nostalgic experience that brings us back to happier non-pandemic times, with tangible emotional benefits both for the present and the future.
These songs, through their serotonin-inducing instrumentals, allowed us to retain a semblance of optimism for the future — optimism that we can soon be back to dancing blurry-visioned and shoulder-to-shoulder with five other strangers. I can't be the only one to have closed my eyes and pretended I was at a party when dancing to "Don't Start Now" alone or with a couple friends at home. It's easy to get pandemic fatigue and resign yourself to the opinion that the current state of things will never change. Future Nostalgia comes up, slaps you across the face and tells you to shut up while screaming, "You WILL eventually get the opportunity to embarrass yourself at a function again."
True to its name, Future Nostalgia draws upon the past and future in an attempt to excite and electrify listeners. This goal is successfully achieved with its unskippable 11-song tracklist, but the album gains so much more meaning considering the state of the world into which it was released. So, even though we're currently only able to dance to Future Nostalgia in a t-shirt and some sweatpants, don't be too sad when glancing at the party outfits in your closet. Keep listening to the album and stay nostalgic for a future that is soon to come.

The Physics of That Spinning Hug in Dua Lipa's Music Video | WIRED
I really don't know much about Dua Lipa—but I actually do know something about physics. The dancing in this music video uses some cool physics for some really interesting effects. In this case, the dancers are performing on a rotating platform. This allows them to do some moves that seem impossible. One dancer lifts the other and leans back—very far. You would think the two would just tip over and fall, but they don't.
In order to really understand this move, we need to look at some basic physics. Let's start with an object in equilibrium. In physics, equilibrium means that an object has zero acceleration (linear equilibrium) and zero angular acceleration (rotational equilibrium). Here's an example—a normal human standing up straight on a normal and non-rotating floor.
Yes, normal humans don't stand around on one foot, but I wanted a fun human. Since the human has a zero acceleration, the total force must also be zero. This is straight from Newton's second law, which states:
For this fun human, there are two forces. The gravitational force pulls straight down and seems to pull on a particular point on the human that we call the center of mass. Yes, technically, all parts of the body have mass and are therefore pulled down to the Earth. But mathematically, you can calculate the entire gravitational force as though it were acting at just one point. For a typical human, that center of mass is somewhere around your belly button. The other force is the force from the floor pushing up. Since it's an interaction between the foot and the floor, it's important to put the force at the contact point. In the diagram above, I labeled this as F N where the N denotes "normal." We call this the normal force since it's perpendicular (normal) to the floor. But the normal force and the gravitational force have to be equal in magnitude in order for the person to be in equilibrium.
Now for the other part of equilibrium, rotational equilibrium. For the human standing on one foot, this means that the fun person doesn't rotate. Just like linear equilibrium means zero net force, rotational equilibrium means zero net torque. Torque is basically a rotational force. When you push on a door to open it, you exert a torque that causes it to go from not rotating to rotating (opening). The value of a torque depends on three things:
So, as an equation the torque can be expressed as the following formula. We use the Greek letter tau (τ) for torque.
It's pretty easy to see that the net torque for the human on one foot is zero. If you take the foot as the point of rotation, both the normal force and gravitational force have a zero torque arm and have zero torque. Since zero plus zero equals zero, the total torque is zero.
Great, now let's use these same ideas to show why you can't hug someone while leaning super far back (unless you are on an awesome rotating platform). Actually, just to make things easier I am going to draw the forces on a single human that is just doing a super lean back.
Even if these two forces (gravitational and normal) have the same magnitudes, the total torque will not be zero. Using the foot contact as the point of rotation, the normal force has zero torque (torque arm of zero), but the gravitational force does indeed have a non-zero torque. The total torque will cause this happy leaning human to tip over and hit the ground. Now a sad human. Sad human on the ground.
Grammys 2021: Dua Lipa Wears Sleek Hair Like Cher — Photos | Allure
The Grammys 2021 red carpet is much more low-key than we're used to due to the pandemic — still, we expected nothing less than for Dua Lipa to come looking like an absolute dream. Her look, complete with shimmery eye makeup, shiny-as-hell hair, and a colorful jeweled gown, sparkles from head to toe.
Now, about that hair: it's miles long, pin-straight, and parted perfectly down the center. Hear us out but the singer, who is nominated for multiple Grammy Awards , bears a striking resemblance to another music icon whose name invokes sheer power, talent, and style: Cher.
Now, Cher is obviously incomparable, so we know we might be ruffling a few feathers — but come on . Take a look at the gorgeous hair, plus the makeup, plus the dramatic dress altogether and tell us Cher herself wouldn't approve.
Sadly, Allure has yet to confirm the identities of the hair and makeup superheroes who helped put this look together, but when we do, we'll update this post with all the product details and tips we can spare.

WATCH: Harry Styles And Dua Lipa Have Been Friends Since 2013 And Here's The Video...
An old video of Harry Styles and Dua Lipa hanging out way back in 2013 has resurfaced and it is precious.
After Harry Styles and Dua Lipa 's interaction at the Grammys , we're looking at just how far these two have come in their careers.
Harry and Dua rose into the spotlight around the same time and were pals even when he was in One Direction.
And in a 2013 video – two years before 'Be the One' put Dua on the map – the pair look like any old set of friends just hanging out in a car ride to somewhere possibly glamorous.
Harry, then 19, holds the camera while recording a message for Dua's little sister Rina while Dua, about 18, chills out in the backseat.
"Hi Rina, it's Harry, with your sister and Chris," he says. "We're hanging out, I'll see you soon!"
At the time, Dua was beginning her journey into the spotlight whereas 1D had been around for three years.
It was two years after that Dua released her first single, 'New Love' and the rest, as they say, is history.
After seeing the old video fans who didn't already know about their friendship were stunned all over again.
How Dua Lipa Dressed for a Week of Filming Campaigns and Grammy Rehearsals | Vogue
"Today I have been on set shooting Evian's new Drink True campaign. Can't wait for you guys to see it!" Lipa says.
She wears a Paris Georgia top and trousers, rings and bracelets by Shay, Martyre earrings, and Puma shoes.
While gearing up to film the commercial, as well as rehearsing for the Grammys, Lipa walked Vogue through five of her outfits for the week. During lockdown, her style has changed a bit, and Lipa has found herself making a mental note to get dressed. "I spent the majority of my time in sweats. I've done so much work and promo from my sofa, so I was like 'I will try to make myself look nice,'" she says over the phone. "It was about creating a routine, getting up, getting yourself ready, and feeling like it is a normal day, as it is easy to get stuck wearing sweats all day."
Wearing sweatpants led Lipa into trying out different pieces. "I like experimenting with different colors and shapes, and I think that is part of the fun. That has also been keeping me optimistic," she says. For her Grammy's rehearsal, she opted for a full, mod-style Courrèges look. Further repping her home city of London, Lipa wore a heart-print cardigan by British designer Ashley Williams later in the week during some downtime.
Also in the mix was a relaxed pair of pale yellow pants and tank top from the woman-owned New Zealand label Paris Georgia, which Lipa wore to her Evian commercial rehearsal. "It is made by women for women," she says, adding. "It is laid-back and comfortable, but cute, and I still feel like I'm making an effort. I feel really confident in it." For an effortless mood booster, Lipa swears by adding accessories to her look. "I love accessorizing with jewelry. I think that is always really fun, and I love pairing colorful rings to match my outfit," she says. "Even if you're wearing something quite plain, accessories always lift your mood." And yet, the accessory she can't leave home without? Water, of course. "I have two to four liters a day," she says. "It is like my jewelry, and my water bottle is always with me."
"After Grammy rehearsals, I traded in my sweats for this vinyl moment…The Vinyl Countdown!" says Lipa.
"A tutti-frutti cutie and a bag that doubles up for a pillow fight in a moment's notice," says Lipa.
She wears a full look and bag by Marshall Columbia, Jimmy Choo shoes, Martyre jewelry, and a Spinelli Kilcollin ring.
She wears an Ashley Williams cardigan, Levi's jeans, Versace shoes, Martyre earrings, rings by Spinelli Kilcollin and Le Vian.
Dua Lipa's Collab Wish List Is What Grammys Magic Is Made Of - E! Online
If we had to pick a silver lining of 2020, Dua Lipa ' s sophomore album, Future Nostalgia , is a strong contender.
When the music industry— and honestly the entire world —came to a screeching halt last March, the pop star knew she was taking a major risk by dropping the project merely weeks into the nation's COVID-19 lockdown.
But Dua's decision proved fortuitous, having nabbed six Grammy nominations , three of which for Record, Album and Song of the Year.
Ahead of Sunday's ceremony, E!'s Rocsi Diaz caught up with the 25 year old for an exclusive chat, where she shared aspirations for the next chapter of her pop music takeover. Spoiler alert: Dua's Grammy-winning streak is far from over.
When asked which fellow artists she'd love to one day collab with, Dua revealed, "My list is actually quite big. There are so many artists that I love and I admire and that inspire me."
Dua admitted she'd also love to work with the often elusive, two-time Grammy winner Frank Ocean , as well as... drumroll, please... Rihanna !
Come Sunday, the British-born songstress is expected to take the stage alongside DaBaby to perform their hit song "Levitating."
For the star's perspective on her incredibly successful year and why she's "so grateful" for the bumps along the way, check out the video above. You can learn more about Dua's ever-exploding career here !
