A week before the performance, Bruno Mars implored the Grammys to allow his band Silk Sonic to play at the show
The duo — known these days as Silk Sonic — delivered a dazzling performance of their new song " Leave the Door Open " during the 63rd annual awards show on Sunday.
The two matched in maroon 70s-style inspired suits and alternated taking the lead singing their new song, with Mars handling the chorus.
"If you just wanna lay me some/Imma leave the door open/Imma leave the door open girl/let you feel the way I feel," he sang.
Performing against a starry background, the two singers sang a dazzling and dreamy rendition of "Leave the Door Open."
The performance came a week after Mars posted an open letter to the Grammy organizers on Twitter, writing, "If you can see it in your hearts to allow two out of work musicians to perform at your show, we would really appreciate it. We just released a song and could really use the promotion right now."

The "Uptown Funk" singer said he and .Paak "have a lot riding on this record (and the Pelicans game next week, but that's another story). We haven't been able to perform for a while and we just want to sing. We'll send in an audition tape and take as many COVID tests as we need to. I promise we won't be extra. We just really want a gig again."
"I hope you'll consider this request and give us the opportunity to shine. Love, Silk Sonic," he concluded.

What's the song you've been listening to the most lately? The one you hit on repeat? For many of us, since last Friday, it's Silk's Sonic's "Leave the Door Open", right? Silk Sonic is Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, a track that's been steadily climbing over the last few days because it's good but also … really, really, really funny. If there was ever a song that could represent what the best sex should be like, it's "Leave the Door Open". And by that I mean smooth and sensual and stimulating, obviously, but also really, really, really fun. Like you're feeling it the way you should feel it in the places where the feeling is and also laughing throughout because it's a good f-cking time, literally!
That's "Leave the Door Open". It's hot and comedic. It's lusty and hilarious. And it's intended to be that way, you can tell, because of how Bruno and Anderson perform it in the video. Look at their facial expressions – these two aren't taking themselves too seriously, they're not brooding at the camera, this whole vibe is a wink, for the express purpose of getting a giggle out of you, maybe followed by a feigned eyeroll, before you come back for more.
Which is why, of course, Bruno and Anderson will be performing it at the Grammys on Sunday, after "begging" the Recording Academy all week for an invitation. I put that in quotes because there is no way the Grammys wouldn't want them there, Bruno in particular, given his success at the Grammys in years past. So, sure, this thing was a ruse from the beginning but does it matter when the two of them played it so well on social media? Here's how it started last Sunday:

Important to note though that BTS's fanbase isn't that easily exploited. They don't bite for everyone. But Anderson actually has some established ARMY cred – his son, Soul, is deep into BTS, a member of ARMY himself:
Anderson and his wife, Jaylyn, are raising their two sons, Soul and Shine, to speak both Korean and English. So the social media promotion this week with the BTS tags wasn't totally out of nowhere. And that was just part it – Anderson and Bruno continued to bicker over social media and angst about whether or not the Grammys would return their call until, naturally, the Recording Academy picked up:

The soulful supergroup released their debut single earlier this month, and then all that was left to do was promote it. "Dear Grammys", Mars wrote in a Twitter letter, "If you can see it in your hearts to allow two out of work musicians to perform at your show, we would really appreciate it."
Ask and ye shall receive. For music's biggest night, the artists performed "Leave the Door Open" in throwback threads, wearing brown suits unbuttoned to the sternum and literal rose-colored glasses. They also showed off some doo wop steps, performing with similarly-attired backup dancers in front of a backdrop of twinkling stars.
Silk Sonic's full-length album, An Evening with Silk Sonic , is expected later this year. That will be Mars' first full-length release since 2016's 24K Magic . For .Paak's part, his last solo effort was 2019's Ventura . In 2020r, he pulled a u-ey with Busta Rhymes on the delightful single "YUUUU" .

Silk Sonic is what happens when two of the brightest stars in the class get together in one group. Bruno Mars , who has been currently enjoying his commercial peak, teamed up with Anderson .Paak for a match made in heaven in the upcoming Evening with Silk Sonic . The album is a celebration of the duo's excellence at the highest level and nothing is stopping it from becoming an all-time classic.

Bruno Mars doesn't always drop albums, but when he does, they become instant classics deserving of constant repeats. Mars has always been picky about his creative works, hence he takes years to carefully craft his music. After Doo-Wops & Hooligans debut in 2010, it took Mars three years to release his second album, Unorthodox Jukebox . Then, another three years for the third, 24k Magic .
While it's not yet to be confirmed, singers H.E.R. and Victoria Monét just dropped some in-your-face hints that they may be featured on the album. H.E.R. took to Instagram to post a picture of her with the duo and their producer , along with the caption, "Tried to audition to be in Silk Sonic. Idk if I made the cut."
Monét, on the other hand, shared a vintage-themed snippet of the new single and said that she is eager to open for their tour once everything goes back to normal.
For avid R&B fans, Bootsy Collins is no strange name. Known as one of the most important members of supergroup Parliament-Funkadelic, Collins was the one who named the duo after hearing the full album. In fact, the bassist also serves as "a special host" and provides the welcoming narration on the album's intro skit.
"And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place," Mars told Lowe. "This was a series of events that led us to 'Man, why don't we just do it?'"
However, not everyone is happy for Bruno Mars' deeper foray into R&B. For years, the Grammy-winning powerhouse singer has been accused of appropriating black culture, to which he responded during an interview with The Breakfast Club .
"You can't find an interview where I haven't talked about the entertainers who have come before me. The only reason I'm here is because of James Brown, Prince, Michael," said Mars, reassuring that all the music he's made has come from the heart.

Just a month into their public debut, Silk Sonic are already making record moves on the Billboard charts. The duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak see their first single, "Leave the Door Open," leap to No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in the fastest run to the top by male artists in the chart's history.
"Door," released on Aftermath/Atlantic Records, jumps from No. 3 to crown the list dated April 3. It rocketed 14% in plays in the week ending March 28 to become the most-played song at the adult R&B radio format in that period, according to MRC Data.

"Door" also sprints to No. 1 in just four weeks, the fastest time clocked by any song in nearly five years and one of only five songs to make it to the summit in under a month since the chart began in September 1993. Notably, as the collab is billed to Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak), and contributes to the individual chart histories of both artists, the dash makes the quickest push to No. 1 on Adult R&B among solo male acts.

Beyond its Adult R&B coronation, "Door" continues its climb on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, where it rises 10-9. There, it improved 23% to 14.2 million in audience in the week ending March 28. Potential further radio top 10s loom with Rhythmic Airplay , where "Door" skips 16-11 thanks to a 33% boost in plays in the tracking week, and Pop Airplay , where, despite repeating at No. 16, the song picked up 23% in plays.
Gains across the radio sectors push "Door" into the top 10 of the all-genre Radio Songs chart. In its third week on the ranking, the single lifts 12-8. With the move, the track completes the fastest run to the region since Justin Bieber's "Yummy" cracked the barrier in its second week, in January 2020.

Two Florida women were caught pretending to be senior citizens so they could get a covid vaccine. It might have worked if they hadn't insisted on stacking on top of each other in a giant trenchcoat. Sounds like they may have already gotten away with this once. The pair arrived at the Orange County Convention Center decked out in bonnets, gloves, and glasses to get their second shot. Once the health director spotted them he pulled them aside like "Come on, this is Florida. We know what old people look like. We know they don't all look like the cast from 'Mama's Family'" They didn't have any charges pressed against them but the sheriff's deputy served some very strong 'disappointed dad' vibes.
Sheriff’s Deputy: You know what you have done? You’ve stolen a vaccine from somebody that needs it more than you. And now you’re not going to get your second one, so that’s a whole waste of time we just wasted here on this- just for your selfishness of stealing the vaccine.

As the artists celebrated the best in music, accepted their GRAMMY Awards and gave heartfelt and inspiring speeches, a number of musicians took the stage to perform the best songs of the year.
From country crooners belting out their big hits to pop superstars showing off their impressive vocal skills and stage presences, this year's unique show also featured some of the most impressive numbers.
The 27-year-old kicked off the 2021 celebration, performing his sultry hit single, "Watermelon Sugar." Rocking a feather boa and a leather shirt , the singer crooned his way into everyone's heart with his commanding opening number.
The singer took the stage to perform "Everything I Wanted," accompanied by her brother, Finneas O'Connell, and a moody set design that included a car that appeared to be crashed into a swamp, which complemented the brooding undercurrents of the tune and Eilish's haunting vocals.
Leave it to this sister trio to tear down the house and bring the rocking energy with their performance of their Best Rock Performance-nominated track, "The Steps."
After a Best New Artist nomination last year, Black Pumas landed three nods at this year's GRAMMYs, including Record of the Year recognition for "Colors," which they performed at this year's show, proving just how soulful and impressive they truly are.
With a Gospel chior opening to their performance of their Record of the Year-nominated hit, "Rockstar," DaBaby and Roddy Ricch brought a new flair and sound to this performance of their acclaimed single.
The two Latin superstars delivered a spectacular performance of their chart-topper, "Dakiti," in a pink and blue neon-drenched number that was simply captivating.
Pretty in pink! The songstress kicked things off with a performance of "Levitating," rocking a pink ballgown, before she was joined by DaBaby, and the singer made a quick costume change into a glittery purple raincoat. Her second song, "Don't Start Now," brought out a third outfit -- a shimmering pink two-piece, which she danced in surrounded by pink-clad back-up dancers in English mod-inspired numbers.
