PHOENIX – Pomp, circumstance and long-standing traditions are aspects of college football bowl games that players, coaches and fans have learned to cherish over the years.
Yet in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sports as we know them have looked different. That will include the second day of 2021 as well, when No. 10 Iowa State and No. 25 Oregon square off Saturday in the 50th Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium.

Local leaders are encouraging people to celebrate the new year at home with immediate family members. But for those still planning to go out, they're sending the message that public events will be under watch.

"We’re only running at 37% right now instead of the 50% we’re allowed," said Marty Travis, the general manager at Billy Bob’s.
"We can plan for a lot of things but we never know what’s going to happen. One thing we always encounter are illegal fireworks here in the city of Fort Worth," said Mike Drivdahl with the Fort Worth Fire Department.

SHILLONG, Dec 29: In a departure from the past, the city is set for toned-down New Year's Eve celebrations, with some official programmes ruled out in view of the pandemic.
While the state government has not yet issued any standard operating procedures (SOPs) for New Year's Eve, the tourism department and the East Khasi Hills district administration have decided not to list any official programme on December 31.
