The Best Video-Game Console to Buy in 2020

Perhaps you've heard about the new set of video game consoles and your interest has been piqued. Should you spring for a video game console of your own? And which one? If you've been sitting out of the gaming world for a little while or you're a complete newcomer, jumping back in can be daunting, with a lot of information to parse and little explanation of how much of it really matters. If that's you, great news! This guide is for you.

Now, the bad news: It is currently extremely hard to get a hold of the new wave of consoles. Nabbing one often involves being among the first to leap into a digital queue, and should anything go awry with your connection, your odds are toast.

Hades, Persona 5 Royal, and Animal Crossing: My 2020 in video games - Vox

You have probably heard of the pandemic. It's not great ! What you are somewhat less likely to know about, if you are not into video games, is P5R. It's an intricate game with a plot so bizarre and lightly horny as to be almost impossible to explain to a casual listener. (It's enough to know that you are a mysterious high schooler who can infiltrate people's mind palaces, and you have a talking cat.)

I've been playing video games since I was a child; I bought my Switch the week it was released and have a PS4 of my own, in addition to a collection of handheld consoles. I tend to get obsessed with two or three games a year, sinking dozens of hours into one over a short period and then abandoning it for other pursuits: traveling, seeing friends, knitting, reading.

The best video games of 2020: CNET's favorite titles of the year - CNET

Most online games, especially shooters like Counter-Strike or Valorant, take pride in balance. In removing random elements, creating an environment where the best players win through skill or ingenuity. Fall Guys did the opposite. Fall Guys was successful because of an absolute commitment to chaos.

But for reasons I still haven't quite figured out, that didn't stop me coming back. Over and over and over again. Fall Guys, I love you and your bullshit.

The Epic Game Store Holiday Sale is here, and there are some very good deals for PC gamers looking to save a few bucks before (or after) Christmas.

The sale runs from now until January 7th, and Epic Games is not only giving everybody a $10 gift certificate (making all these deals even better) they're also giving away a free game every day for the next 15 days.

There are a number of other excellent deals, and I've rounded up ten of them in the below list. You can save upwards of 70% on some games during the sale. Not too shabby. And some of these games are brand new, including the first game in this list, Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Before Cyberpunk: Video games that changed the world - France 24

As Sony pulls the much-hyped action role play game Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation after complaints of bugs and even a player getting a fit, we look back on gaming history, from "prehistoric" Pacman to worlds as limitless as a hacker's imagination.

* * *

This fixed-shooter game that continues to inspire a world-famous street artist Invader pits a horizontally-moving cannon against an ever-descending army of invaders.

Super Mario, the hyperactive little plumber who has become one of the best-known characters in video game history, debuted in one of the world's first games that allowed the character to move horizontally through an evolving landscape.

Brain-controlled gaming exists, though ethical questions loom over the tech - The Washington Post

As the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre shut its laboratories following the covid-19 outbreak, Nathan Copeland, a 33-year-old volunteer, collected the equipment that would grant him transformative abilities during lockdown. Paralyzed from the chest down with only limited arm movement, Copeland took home an advanced brain-computer interface, a device that allows him to control on-screen actions using only his mind.

To date, one of the team's biggest successes has been decoding the complicated neural signals to allow Copeland to control a nimble robotic arm. As such, the chip has obvious implications for those like Copeland who can regain lost abilities through the interface, and the research done with the brain-computer interface is likely to have a huge impact on future advances in accessibility. But there are tangential areas where the impact of the chip could be similarly massive.

In a Big Year for Video Games, These Players Are Shifting the Culture - The New York Times

It should come as no surprise that 2020 was a monumental year for the video game industry. While other business sectors saw revenues shrink and storefronts close, gaming companies have profited over these many months when millions of people have been spending more time at home.

Some of those people were always gamers , but the year has also drawn a new crop of players. Streaming platforms like Twitch, previously reserved for competitive gamers and fans, grew to host chess grandmasters and politicians making campaign stops . Sellers on Amazon and other online marketplaces began listing the Nintendo Switch, released in 2017, at jacked-up prices in the early months of the pandemic to match an unexpected surge in interest.
