Wasemiller sets course record in win

HOT SPRINGS -- Carson Wasemiller knew there was no way she could take things easy Friday afternoon, especially with Mia Loafman and Ali Nachtigal somewhere within reach.

So the Fayetteville sophomore kept running until she not only won the Class 6A girls individual cross country championship, but set an Oaklawn Racing Casion Resort course record with her time of 18 minutes, 14.04 seconds.

"It was hot, but I'm thankful after conference that we had a race that wasn't wet or muddy," Wasemiller said. "I knew I wanted to stick with Mia, because she is really fast.

With a Republican majority, Barrett was approved Monday night following a quick confirmation and over the objections of Democrats, who said her nomination was too close to the U.S. election in November.

LOS ANGELES - The Girl Scouts of America deleted a tweet Wednesday congratulating newly sworn-in Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett after the post triggered apparent backlash on social media.

The post read, “Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789.”

Born and raised on a farm near Otho, Iowa, Joe was one of John and Dolores Peed’s seven children — 5 boys and 2 girls. How an 'Exhausted' Elton John Still Hit No. 1 With 'Island Girl'

By the time his "Island Girl" hit No. 1 in the U.S. on Nov. 1, 1975,  Elton John was at his breaking point.

Almost exactly one year earlier, his duet with John Lennon , "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night," also topped the Billboard Hot 100. The autobiographical  Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy , released in the spring of 1975, became the first album to debut at No. 1 in the U.S. The following October he made history again when he released Rock of the Westies , another No. 1 debut.
