It's nearly Black Friday, and that means it's time to buy some games. Video game hardware and software are always some of the most reliable deals on the annual shopping holiday, with steep discounts on games old and new and, this year, at least the opportunity to buy some new consoles at MSRP. Walmart has had it's deal out for a little while now, with plenty of time to peruse.

For the first time in its storied history, the Hugo Awards will honor a video game. The annual literary award has avoided recognizing the medium for years, but present circumstances being what they are, it will make an exception at the next World Science Fiction Convention in 2021. As you might have guessed, the about-face came out of the coronavirus pandemic, and more specifically the amount of time most in the sci-fi and fantasy communities have spent playing video games in lockdown.

While funny, there seems to be a real disconnect with how game designers view photography. With older games like Metal Gear Solid, the scenes can feel tedious and unrealistic:
It’s not even older games that struggle with photography, though. Modern games like the newly-released Call of Duty: Cold War use photography as a trope that mainly serves as mission filler and takes away from the main reason someone would play the game.

A father and his teen children have found a way to share fun and turn their hobby into a cottage industry.
Dan Parrell — who shares guardianship of his kids with his ex-wife — founded Big Games Corp. in 2019 with his daughter, Rachel, 17, and son Sean, 16. Their goal was to create fun multiplayer, single-console interactive video games.
Video game sales surge for 2020 holiday season amid console war, pandemic | Fox Business
That’s at least what video game developer Gearbox Entertainment Company found in a new survey of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34. Fifty-two percent of this demographic indicated they have either already bought or are planning to buy a video game for a family member or friend as a gift this season, according to data Gearbox shared with FOX Business.

Similarly, Gearbox found that 48% of American families with children have bought video games or intend to purchase video games as holiday gifts as of early November.
