Promesa video game review: Game? Interactive art? Why not both? - The Washington Post

"Promesa" is a short, experimental work deeply informed by revered Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1986), much of whose work is structured around evocative environments meant to draw one into a contemplative mood.

"Promesa's" compact story unfolds through paragraph-sized intertiles that appear at the beginning and in between the game's short segments. From these, we come to eavesdrop on a conversation between a grandfather and his grandchild. Their conversation touches on the vagaries of memory, regrets, and nostalgia. This is representative of their ruminations: "You know that I keep forgetting the names of streets?

Disc Room is the 'pizza Margherita' of video games - Polygon

At first glance, Disc Room appears to be super simple: a room, some discs, and a playable character to dart in and around those first two. But there's so much more beyond that initial first glance. Somehow, these three ingredients work together in a way that creates a video game with a lot of depth.

"It's room with saw blades," Disc Room developer Jan Willem Nijman told Polygon. "Let's see how far we can take it."

Kitty Calis, also a Disc Room developer, laughed: "We often joke that we wanted to make a pizza Margherita video game — something that's so simple." And honestly, it's a metaphor that works. (Though I'm not sure which ingredient — the basil, mozzarella, or sauce — is the deadly discs.)

Video-game London in Watch Dogs Legion shows us the darkest timeline | Games | The Guardian

"Once we landed on the concept of playing as anyone in the city and how we might achieve that in the game, our shortlist got narrowed very quickly down to cities that were very diverse," says Clint Hocking, Watch Dogs' creative director, who is best known for 2008's subversive shooter Far Cry 2. "London shot to the top of that list very rapidly when we got into the themes of the game, like economic and social turmoil.

In many open-world games such as this, after a while it starts to feel like you really could be in any large city. But this London, though futuristic, is unmistakable: the patchwork of accents, the hodgepodge of old and new buildings, the intermittent rain. Instead of reducing London to symbols, to tube signs and red buses, Watch Dogs Legion attempts to capture the character of the place and its people.

AOC's 'Among Us' stream exhibits why watching games is a beloved pastime for years - The

If anyone is confused why more than half a million people would watch a congresswoman play a video game for three hours, here's the core reason: Almost 3 billion humans play video games .

Once you accept that statistic, it becomes easier to understand the appeal of Twitch streams, YouTube videos and other avenues to watch strangers play video games.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) "Among Us" stream is the third most-watched stream by an individual person on Twitch, peaking at about 440,000 concurrent viewers. She maintained well above 300,000 for the three hours she played "Among Us" with about a dozen other gaming influencers and celebrities — as well as Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) — all of whom streamed on their own and kept the concurrent viewers for the total experience well above half a million.
