Do 'Sexy Girl' Media Messages Overpower 'Girl Power' Ones?

The film has landed squarely in the middle of a culture war within the U.S. Some claim the film qualifies as child exploitation—amplified by supporters of a QAnon-related conspiracy theory  claiming top Democrats and celebrities are part of a worldwide child trafficking ring. Others  defend the film  as a nuanced coming-of-age story about the challenges of being a young girl—especially a young Black girl.

Maimouna Doucouré, the film’s director, has explained her intentions behind the film:

Girls soccer: Yorktown continues hot start with 1-0 win over Somers

YORKTOWN — The stakes are always high whenever two rivals meet. Win-loss records and past results don't matter as much as winning the next showdown.

On Friday afternoon, Yorktown and Somers crossed paths once again on the pitch. The Tuskers were hungry for revenge after getting their senior night spoiled by the Huskers in a one-goal bout a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately for Somers, it left unsatisfied once again.

CMT Awards 2020: Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey Performance | PEOPLE.com

During the 2020 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night, the singers performed their collaboration, "The Other Girl," both donning sultry leather outfits as they sang and danced with one another in an empty bar.

'Emily in Paris' Season 1 Episode 3 Recap: 'Sexy or Sexist?'

I really wish I didn't have to keep disappointing you with my reports of Emily's social-media efforts, but she posts a photo of cool French girls smoking cigarettes outside a boutique fitness studio with the hashtag #smokin'bodies, which, in addition to being SO eyeroll-obvious, is not a functioning hashtag because of the apostrophe. Also, it's kind of obnoxious when a show makes a whole thing out of how much a protagonist loves to eat when said heroine is quite thin.

Emily's adorable shower stops working, which brings us to one of my favorite people in her universe, even though she's a walking stereotype: the crotchety building manager who speaks only French. I love her for saying my inner monologue aloud. "Why does she break everything? Can you tell me why she breaks everything?" she asks Gabriel, whom Emily has enlisted as translator. "She's getting on my nerves. Nothing but problems since she got here." Show me the lie!

PokerNews Book Review: A Girl's Guide to Poker by Amanda Botfeld | PokerNews

Whenever a new poker book hits the market, I'm almost always excited to read it. However, truth be told, A Girl's Guide to Poker by Amanda Botfeld was not one of them. The reason is simple – I'm not a girl.

I tried to see if my longtime PokerNews colleague Sarah Herring might be interested in reading and reviewing, but at the time she was on maternity leave. I informed Botfeld that a review may not happen, but I've got to give her credit, she was persistent and convinced me that while it's marketed to women, a man could also get something out of it.

'The Queen's Gambit' Makes Chess Kind of Sexy

The seven episodes of The Queen's Gambit are basically a portrait of the chess prodigy as a young woman, following Beth from girlhood in the 1950s to adulthood in the late 1960s, when she's long since traded her blunt bob for a flip do that makes her look like the Emma Peel of the chess world. It is a great blessing that, from her teenage years onward, Beth is played by Anya Taylor-Joy, star of The Witch , the most recent Emma. , and, soon, the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel .

The Queen's Gambit , adapted from the novel by Walter Tevis, obviously focuses quite heavily on chess, a game that can be a bit dull, especially to those who don't fully understand its rules. But Frank, who wrote and directed every episode, finds consistent ways to make it exciting, even a bit sexy.
