Dr Kawashima Was Right: Playing Video Games As a Child May Boost Memory in Adulthood | Technology

A number of studies have shown how playing video games can lead to structural changes in the brain, including increasing the size of some regions, or to functional changes, such as activating the areas responsible for attention or visual-spatial skills. New research from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) has gone further to show how cognitive changes can take place even years after people stop playing.

Review: 'Console Wars' relives a bitter '90s gaming rivalry

Video game documentaries were rare a decade ago. One reason for that is the medium and its audience were relatively young. Stories were still unfolding and the outstanding news still hadn’t gotten the patina of history yet.

That has changed recently as filmmakers uncovered compelling narratives while peeking behind the industry curtains. The “High Score” Netflix series provided a multifaceted look at the origins of video games and several genres. “King of Kong” introduced viewers to the world of retro video game competitions. “Atari: Game Over” looked at the rise and fall of the pioneering company.

Game Awards 2020 will go online in Los Angeles, Tokyo and London - The Washington Post

The Game Awards is still on for 2020, and it's expanding from Los Angeles to include stages in Tokyo and London this December, though it will do so with no audiences as the covid-19 pandemic drags on.

Instead, 2020′s show will be on three stages across three continents. This gives developers and performers in Europe and Japan easier access to the show, whether virtually or in person at one of the stages.

"It's something I've always wanted to do, make the show more international in its focus," Keighley said, adding that more than half of the show's audience is outside the U.S. "This presented a unique opportunity to say, 'Hey if [developer Hideo] Kojima wants to join us now, he can go to Tokyo instead of coming to Los Angeles. That's the big shift this year."
