"Super Mario 64," "Sunshine" and "Galaxy" are coming to Switch on a limited basis. Why?
Thursday morning, a 10-minute Nintendo Direct announced some unexpected news: A slew of classic Super Mario games are coming to the Switch . "Super Mario 64," "Super Mario Sunshine" and "Super Mario Galaxy," each bundled together in "Super Mario 3D All Stars," will be available in retail stores and virtually on the Nintendo eShop, but only for a limited time — until the end of March 2021.
Wait, what? If you're confused, you're not alone. Video game critics and fans took to Twitter following the announcement, clearly baffled by the strange restrictions. The limited availability gimmick is extending to "Super Mario Bros. 35" too (which turns the classic Super Mario Bros. into a battle royale), as well as to certain tie-in events running through to March 2021.
The secret Avengers video game the world never got to play - CNET
First there was a bang. The sort of noise that comes from steel-on-steel impact. An unfamiliar sound in an office used to the peaceful clatter of mechanical keyboards. Still, no one batted an eyelid.

People began to take notice. One ear at a time, the headphones peeled off. Hordes of men and women, peering over office dividers like confused meerkats. What was that noise? Where was it coming from?
Slowly, it became clear. A full-grown game designer, enraged. He'd picked up the nearest blunt instrument, an umbrella, and began rhythmically battering it on a filing cabinet.

Tesla hires software engineers to develop in-car video games
The electric vehicle manufacturer added job listings on its website for engineers specializing in video game software that would probably end up in its range of EVs.
Tesla cars have a large touch-screen display that owners and passengers can use to play video games when the vehicle is parked. The gaming offerings have been from other companies such as Atari.
The job listings suggest Tesla is looking to develop its own games. Outside Austin, Texas, where Tesla is building a plant, the automaker seeks a video game engineer to work on infotainment software.
The return of Tony Hawk, pro skater, video game icon - Los Angeles Times
In early June, Tony Hawk was championed as a hero on social media for speaking out at a Los Angeles Police Commission meeting. One problem: It wasn't him.
Within moments, the real Tony Hawk, pro skater and video game brand icon, saw his social media notifications erupt. Hawk, speaking on the phone this week from his north San Diego County office in Vista, says that at first he was confused. Why was everyone tagging and celebrating him?
But Hawk wasn't upset by the case of mistaken identity once he heard the recording of the Zoom meeting. "The sentiment wasn't bad."

For now, their competition comes from video games. Their superstar player is also adept at those, as coach Frank Vogel revealed when asked what he's learned about LeBron James that surprised him most.
"I would say how good he is at Madden football," Vogel said. "I think they've been playing a lot of Madden football, our group has, and I hear he's very good."
Genre-Defining Video Games That Started As Mods - Nerdist
Ever wish you could tweak your favorite video games to make something totally new? Well for many games all you need is a lot of creativity and a little patience. Modders are truly among the gaming industry’s unsung heroes. They work a game like a fistful of Play-Doh for the pure joy of creation. And without modders, some of the most influential game genres might never exist.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos not only inspired mods but an entirely new genre of gaming. The third in the longstanding Warcraft series featured real time strategy mechanics which gave modders new tools in the crusade to break games. Not to mention, Warcraft III was very much designed to be a sandbox thanks to its easy to use World Editor.
