Bookmark: Hot town, summer in the city, let's read some sizzling books - StarTribune.com

A friend once told me that on the hottest days of summer, I should drink a cup of hot coffee. He swore that heating up my insides would cause my outsides to cool down.

I couldn’t bring myself to try this, and he just shook his head at my ignorance as I gulped ice-cold water. But I think what he told me makes scientific sense.

This has been a hellaciously hot July. So here are 10 books set in hot weather or steamy locations that might help you cool down. Or who knows? Maybe they’ll just make you hotter.

Blackpink's new single "How You Like That" falls on this week's Hot 100, but the fact that it is present at all is worth noting.

If "How You Like That" does somehow manage to find space on the Hot 100 once more next week, it will make history yet again with just a third turn on the tally.

By landing as high as the track did, the four women of Blackpink made history by landing another true smash on the competitive ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S.

With "How You Like That" starting at No. 33, Blackpink tied their own record for the highest-charting song by a South Korean girl group in Hot 100 history. The two smashes managed to break into the top 40, which typically defines when a track has become a hit. Both their latest release and "Sour Candy," their collaboration with Lady Gaga which came out just weeks before they kicked off their own campaign, peaked at No. 33.

Hazlett: Poultry not high on farm girl's pecking order | Family | pantagraph.com

I'm not surprised, really. After all, during times of national crisis or widespread shortages, the idea of being more self-reliant is both appealing and practical. During World War II, almost every neighborhood had a "victory garden" to help feed families and troops.

In 2020, people in rural and urban areas are searching for ways to be more self-sustaining, and many are flocking to poultry farming. With the threat of empty store shelves, some egg lovers have decided to raise hens in their backyards.
