The Best Video Game Competition TV Shows | PCMag

The Sims Spark’d , which premiered this month on TBS, is one of the strangest TV shows we’ve heard of in a while. The four-episode game show tasks players of EA’s computer people franchise with using the game to create narratives that will be evaluated by a team of judges. The winner walks away with $100,000 when everything’s said and done, which is pretty good for playing computer games.

Obviously Spark’d isn’t the first TV show to try and cash in on the video game craze, but it’s definitely blazing new paths. We decided to dive into the vaults and look at some of the other attempts to bring the arcades to the airwaves, with mixed results. Note that this doesn’t include anything esports related, as that’s a whole different thing.

While the football, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country seasons may be in jeopardy this year, one sport can be played during this pandemic and played during just about anything besides a power outage.

The National Federation of High School Sports adopted ESports as a varsity sport and now schools in more than 15 states are competing.

Marketers Experiment With TV Ads in Console Videogames - WSJ

Marketers are putting TV ads in videogames played on consoles, an experiment in trying to reach younger audiences who are watching ever less traditional TV.

In May, for instance, the Turner unit of AT&T's WarnerMedia ran three ad tests within "UFC 3," a fighting game from Electronic Arts Inc. The ads promoted Turner properties: its animated series "Rick & Morty," the sci-fi show "Snowpiercer" and "The Match," a celebrity golf tournament played by Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

5 More Terrifying Moments in Non-Horror Video Games

The horror, the horror! Oh, we’re (not) just quoting Apocalypse Now – we’re talking about the genre itself! Horror has seeped into everything, whether it’s action, comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, drama. And it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

The reality is video games are the biggest sources of this trend. The best way to illicit a reaction out of the player is to jolt them with something scary out of the blue. As such, we are going to take a look at another 5 terrifying moments in video games that were not quite horror, yet embraced aspects of the genre all the same.
