Is the video games industry finally reckoning with sexism? | Games | The Guardian

This follows years of escalating exposure of games industry sexism. But after so many women – and not just women, but queer people, nonbinary people and men, too – have spoken out, is anything actually changing? Is this finally the point at which the industry reckons with its astonishingly widespread problems?

"Games is a passion industry that people are eager to join, so companies can easily replace employees … it's also drawing the majority of workers out of a core gaming culture that very much sees itself as a boys' club, which affects the game industry culture, which affects the gaming culture in a reinforcing loop."

In case you are keeping track:

My wife and her Overcooked gaming squad are out of control - CNET

No. They're here to play Overcooked 2 and eat cheese platters. And they're all out of cheese platters.

* * *

"Where's my cheese!"

That's Natalie. All three agree she's probably the strongest player. When shit hits the fan, she tends to pick up the pieces.

"What cheese?"

That's Caryn. Solid, dependable. She never falls off the edge in high-pressure situations. Falling off the edge in high-pressure situations can be the difference between a 2- and 3-star score.

"What cheese? Are you ready to serve? WE HAVE TO SERVE."

That's my wife. She's sorta the default Overcooked leader.

Papillion-La Vista teacher tackling student lunch debt with gaming channel fundraiser

"As a teacher, I kind of want to keep things family-friendly here because sometimes my students find me," he said while playing a game.

When he is not teaching German to students at Papillion-La Vista High School, he's a Twitch streamer.

"Wich is basically an online platform where you play video games and people can come and watch you. And they can also donate money," McCarter explained. "If they like what they see, they can support the channel."

Even in video games, politics and race divide - The Boston Globe

"Imagine if 'Call of Duty' started putting Trump ads in their game?" he added. "It's a slippery slope I prefer game makers would avoid."

* * *

Perhaps the most impressive effort came from the independent game publisher Itch.io . It assembled a package of 1,700 low-budget games and sold them for a minimum donation of $5 in a bid to raise $100,000 for civil rights groups. The effort raised more than $8 million.

A recent report by the Anti-Defamation League identified at least 200 Steam user accounts that propagated white supremacist views and criticized Steam's parent company, Valve, for doing too little to halt such activity.

The trans narrative in 'The Last of Us Part II' is compelling. There's so much more to be done.

It's from this moment that Lev emerges as a major focal point of Abby's story and the player's attention. We learn, from Abby's perspective, his backstory — that he's trans (though the word itself is never said), that he was cast out of the Seraphite faction after he shaved his head, an act that marks him as a man among the Seraphites, and that he and his sister left his unaccepting mother behind. Resolving this arc becomes a major concern of Abby's story.

And my own experience playing bears out some of what Waverly is saying, even if I came out with a more positive impression of this particular experience than they did. All of my thoughts are situated within my understanding of a story that inevitably centers someone else. You cannot view Lev unmediated — his perspective is always understood through someone else.

Ball Parks Will Use Video Games Noises - San Francisco News

SAN FRANCISCO—On Friday, July 17, Major League Baseball players will hear crowd sounds from a video game this upcoming season. MLB will be using sounds from “MLB The Show.” Stadiums will have a plethora of options to use with effects and reactions throughout games.

The Associated Press reported that San Diego Studios, from Sony Interactive Entertainment was responsible for generating the noise during the games for several seasons.

* * *

According to ESPN reporter, Chris Marinak, “There was some reticence when you first talk about crowd noise in an empty ball park because you don’t want to do something that is distracting”. Marinak is MLB’S executive Vice President for strategy, technology, and innovation. “It is heard in a way that is natural with the play of the game and on field. The sounds do match what is happening.”

10-year-old child shot in face while playing video games, HCSO says

Junior Martinez was playing videos game with his little brother at a home near Birnam Wood Boulevard and Reynaldo Drive when a shot was fired into his window at about 4 a.m.

"He actually woke up two days ago. He started wiggling his fingers, started wiggling his toes. The nurses came and asked him to squeeze their hand, and he squeezed their hand," said his father, Julian Martinez. "The bullet went in on the right side of his face and when it went in there it actually hit a piece of his brain. They had to go in there and do surgery. There was some bleeding but not much and luckily there was no swelling."
