Some queer characters from the world of video games

While video games have come a long way in terms of inclusivity, queer identity has been an absent trait for a long time. However, despite chronic under-representation, few video games have broken new grounds in terms of well-written and relatable queer characters who are not just written into the game for the sake of representation but actively contribute to the story, either as protagonists or characters having a sizable offering.

One of the most recognisable characters from Overwatch and video games in general, Tracer was revealed as queer when the game's developer, Blizzard, released a comic about every character's backstory. We love that her personality isn't limited to her being a queer character, with her being one of the best characters in all of class-based shooting video games.

Revisiting Wrestling Video Games (Game Boy Family)

Up until now, this series of columns on wrestling video games focused on home consoles. From the original Nintendo Entertainment System to the Nintendo 64, the systems we’ve covered were not considered portable. This wasn’t to say that options were nonexistent for gamers on the go. In fact, for at least one company in particular, handheld gaming has been a pillar of success.

One of the terms most synonymous with Nintendo is "Game Boy." Nintendo saw success with its series of Game and Watch devices, which ran through the 1980s up until the early 90s. However, these were designed with specific games in mind. If you picked up "Ball," you could only play "Ball." Starting with the Game Boy, which saw a 1989 release in Japan and North America, cartridge-based titles on handhelds became the norm.

The average AAA video game is priced at $60. Of course, you can find them cheaper but the standard cost will run you anywhere between $40 to $60.

How to Play Classic Video Games | PCMag

Classic console gaming is hard to preserve. Cartridges are their own unique media that you can't read without some specialized hardware, and they account for the majority of console games made before 1996.

Depending on the game and system, you might have some pretty easy ways to play your favorite retro console games, though, whether your have the original carts or not. And if your tastes run more toward classic PC games, we have a guide for playing those, too .

Let's be honest here, there's a very big part of retro gaming that we can't completely and directly address. There are emulators for nearly any computer or game hardware made between 1970 and 2000, and that includes any game console made. If you have a PC, it can act like a hundred different game systems. NES? Sure. PlayStation 2? Easily. Sega Dreamcast? Not a problem.

Kelly Evans: Video games are the new social media

I am not a "gamer." I think I played Mario Kart a few times growing up, and that was pretty much it. (Actually, there was a strong "Zelda" phase, too.)

Perhaps that also illuminates why video games have become even more popular during the Covid shutdowns; not only are people stuck at home with extra free time, but they're often shut off from external sources of community and mission. Sure enough, both Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard are trading at two-year highs today and within touching distance of their all-time highs.

School officers to use video game to connect to kids | Local News | gloucestertimes.com

When they aren't on duty, Gloucester School Resource Officers Mike Scola and Peter Sutera have found video games to be their past-time of choice.

"Myself and Mike Scola have always played. My kids play and it has been a thing that we like to do," Sutera said. "I feel like it is a good bonding for anybody."

When the novel coronavirus pandemic forced the Gloucester Police Department's Kops-N-Kids program to nix annual school visits when classes were moved to an online format and then summer activities, these two police officers went looking to level up their interaction with kids. The answer? Video games.
