These are positive actions, but the most impactful thing game companies can do is take action internally. Racial bias is baked, usually unintentionally, into games by those who develop them. This creates a recurring pattern of Black and Latinx characters being stereotyped or completely absent in games, which is invalidating and demeaning.
There are 2.5 billion gamers in the world, a group that includes consumers across every ethnicity and age (especially in mobile gaming, the largest market segment). Quartz has noted that "57% of video game players in the U.S. between the ages of 6 and 29 will be people of color in less than 10 years." Black and Latinx youth in the US spend more time per day , on average, on both mobile games and console games than white youth.

DBB on 3: Talking video games since the real thing seems so far away - Detroit Bad Boys
We are all going through NBA withdrawals, and with even passing day bringing a record number of COVID-19 cases in Florida, I am starting to get worried that the NBA won't return for real until 2021. The NBA and its partners are doing their best up to and including more expansive coverage of e-sports and the professional 2K league.
Basketball is the hardest major sport to pull off in a video game because it's so much about fluid movements and working together with your teammates in a dynamic way. That's probably a definite old man take, and I'll own it since, lord help me, I'm approaching 40.
What video games are you playing during quarantine? - The Falcoholic
It's still video game theme week here at SB Nation, and that provides us the perfect opportunity to talk about something I bet quite a few of us are doing more of during the pandemic: Playing video games.
This is a pretty open-ended discussion for those of you not busy with Father's Day celebrations and the like, but what games are you playing, if any? For me, the lack of a commute from home to office has meant a bit more time to play, and I've been churning my way through Warzone, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Final Fantasy XV, among others.
While you're here, how about this:
Ultimate Gamer hosts 3-day gaming event in Doral – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports
DORAL, FLA. (WSVN) - It is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and it’s played while sitting in a chair — competitive video games.

“I wasn’t really into gaming, then I came into Ultimate Gamer and it really introduced me into, like, the world of gaming,” said gamer Eva Pozo. “I’m really thankful for that, so that’s what I would tell them. If you want to get into gaming, this is the place to be.
How a sports video game helped shape part of my relationship with my dad - Over the Monster
My dad and I don't agree on many things when it comes to sports fandom. My dad is a diehard Dodgers fan while I have always been a Red Sox fan. It goes beyond baseball, as we each share different sides of the Celtics/Lakers rivalry and the Patriots/Jets rivalry. At least we both share our fanhood of the Boston Bruins.
However, despite our differences in fan allegiance, I wouldn't be the sports fan I am today without my dad. I learned about reading everything I could in preparation for a new season from him. I learned how to obsessively pour over box scores to pull out interesting information from him. To this day I still buy a physical copy of at least one magazine's baseball preview issue just like my dad has for the last few decades.
Casual Friday: What are your favorite video games of all-time? - Field Gulls
(My choice of picture is solely to remind everyone that Peyton Hillis' singular good year as an NFL running back netted him a spot on the Madden NFL 12 cover, via fan voting.)
For the rest of this offseason I'm going to designate Fridays as an open thread of sorts for non-football related topics of my choosing. We might as well start this week with something that ties into SB Nation's theme week.
This is uh... well this doesn't seem like a realistic tackling engine whatsoever. https://t.co/gDOFRJeA7c
