NEW DELHI — She was a 15-year-old with a simple mission: bring papa home.
Jyoti Kumari and her dad had nearly no money, no transport, and their village was halfway across India.
And her dad, an out-of-work migrant laborer, was injured and could barely walk.
So Jyoti told her dad: Let me take you home. He thought the idea was crazy but went along with it. She then jumped on a $20 purple bike bought with the last of their savings.
During the past two months under India's coronavirus lockdown, millions of migrant laborers and their families have poured out of India's cities, desperate and penniless, as they try to get back to their native villages where they can rely on family networks to survive.

No girl has ever been president: Thinking about Joe Biden's running mate - New York Daily News
My then-8-year-old daughter looked up from her cereal bowl, pushed her hot pink glasses back up the bridge of her freckled nose, and locked eyes with me in a way that made me feel something big was coming. I sensed a Why can't we get a puppy? or a What makes kissing French? type of moment upon us.

"Mom, Hillary Clinton is a girl, right?" a milk-logged Cheerio catapulted off the edge of her spoon.
"Yes, Hillary Clinton is a girl," I responded while trying in real-time to process what was going on here. "A woman, actually. Hillary Clinton is a woman."
The Climate 'Hot 10 Songs' - The New York Times
As global temperatures have climbed, so have mentions of climate change in popular songs. Here are 10 that led the way.

At its best, music can act as a kind of auditory restorative, lifting us up when we're down. It can help hold us together, both as individuals and collectively, when a trauma sends ripples across society.
Yet in recent decades, even as climate change caused temperatures to soar and triggered lethal hurricanes, catastrophic fires and cataclysmic floods across the United States and its territories, a keen ear could hear the theme of global warming starting to swell, from country to rap, rock to pop.
Hot Springs assistant left mark in 2 years
Aaron Cooper spent just two years as an assistant boys basketball coach at Hot Springs High School, but it was enough to leave an imprint on the program.
"That's the one thing that I appreciate about him the most, and one thing that I'm really going to miss."
Lasker's admiration for the Henderson State alum was extensive, and he offered a glimpse of how big of an influence Cooper had at Hot Springs.
Cooper's energy was instrumental in helping the Trojans win 25 games in each of the past two seasons, culminating with an undefeated run through the 5A-South Conference this season. There were several times Cooper's passion was visible, particularly when the team was struggling.

How high "Sour Candy" can climb on the Hot 100 is anyone's guess, but a Top 20 debut doesn't seem out of the question. There is precedent for collaborations between K-pop artists and Western pop stars charting extraordinarily well: BTS reached No. 8 on the Hot 100 with the Halsey-assisted "Boy with Luv," while their Map of the Soul: 7 lead single peaked at No. 4, benefiting from a remix with Sia.

Canceled 1996 state softball tournaments still hard to accept
Come hell or high water, though, the Montana High School Association has typically found a way for state softball tournaments to be played. Until the coronavirus pandemic canceled the 2020 season, that had been the case every year except 1996, when the water was just too high.
"I just remember this: I got to Billings on Wednesday, the night before that tournament for our coaches meeting, and when I drove King Avenue, across from the restaurants and across from the car dealerships, the borrow pits along King Avenue were level with the road with water," said Jim Haugen, who worked with the MHSA from 1977 until his retirement in 2004.
Work to Begin on Happy Jack Exit May 26
There will be potential delays for motorists who are going to access trailheads or rest area facilities using the Happy Jack Road exit on Interstate 80 as road work begins Tuesday, May 26.
Contractors will be completing bridge rehabilitation work to the structure that connects motorists from I-80 to the Summit Rest Area and WYO 210 (Happy Jack Road) at exit 323.
Crews will also be milling and paving a high-performance wearing course on the Telephone Canyon portion of I-80, from mile markers 319-324. Not only does the wearing course improve durability and friction, but it also creates a smoother driving surface.
