Video games get big boost from social distancing orders

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) - The COVID- 19 crisis has been disastrous for some industries, but activities you can do while staying at home are booming.

The sounds of video games are filling homes across South Mississippi. AT&T released a number of trends they've seen since the beginning of COVID-19, with participation in gaming seeing an increase each week, up as much as 54%.

"I have been playing a lot more video games especially since I can't go to work. Gives me a bunch of time to work on school and then after school, I turn on my system and start playing the games," said Maxwell Higginbotham.

3 Funds Riding on Video Games and Streaming Services

The universe of indoor gaming, e-sports and streaming shows has attracted significant attention owing to the segment's ability to offer an impressive mode of entertainment. In fact, this world of indoor entertainment has garnered more limelight in the last few months because of the deadly coronavirus pandemic that has confined millions to their homes around the world.

Video Games Like Red Dead Redemption 2 Are Giving Me the Travel Escape I Need Right Now - Condé

I choose to continue with the wagon theft. But when I finally return to the outcrop, after a shoot-out with the law and a desperate rush to Valentine on a stolen steed, the miracle cure proves useless. Tootie Bell, named after my late grandmother, is already dead. In its own small way, it is devastating.

Ostensibly, the game is the story of Arthur Morgan, a grizzled tough guy with a slow-burn soft side, and his increasingly threatened gang of outlaws. But really, the main character is the country itself: the snowy peaks of Grizzlies West, which recall the Rockies of Colorado , Wyoming, and Montana; New Austin, which borrows from the Sonoran, Chihuahua, and Mojave deserts; or the raucous Saint Denis in swampy Bayou Nwa, a hot mess that is pure New Orleans .

Five Video Games That Deserve a Remake

Folks, there are two things I love: Star Wars and RPGs. Bioware combining the two resulted in one of the greatest video games of all time. In recent years, Bioware has lost a bit of it's sheen after the back to back disappointments of Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem. A KoTOR remake could be just the thing to put some respect back on Bioware's name. The engrossing, twist filled narrative holds up so no changes are needed there.

It has been an entire decade since the last Prince of Persia game released. In that time, we've seen the Assassin's Creed franchise more or less fill the same role to varying degrees of success. This is a remake where less would be more. The platforming and combat are still a thrill to this day. The story is charming and the swashbuckling tone combined with innovative its time travel mechanics result in a game that would stand out in today's homogenized gaming landscape.

And here's another article:

Ranking the Greatest Baseball Video Games of All Time | Bleacher Report | Latest News, Videos and

At least until the real thing returns, perhaps the best way for Major League Baseball fans to get their fix is to boot up a baseball video game.

There have been hundreds of those over the years, but there are 10 in particular—not all of which were affiliated with MLB —that deserve a place among the all-time greats of the genre.

In putting together our list, our only actual rule was to allow only one entry from assorted long-running franchises. Otherwise, we prioritized games that were innovative in some way, shape or form. Naturally, nostalgia was also a factor in some cases.

Telling the Data Story Behind Video Gaming - Knowledge@Wharton

Iyengar, who is faculty director of Wharton Customer Analytics , notes that this enormous amount of data collection was made possible by the migration of video games to an online format about 20 years ago. "Lots of gaming [involved] basically selling DVDs or other physical assets to a Walmart or a game store, but much of that has completely changed…. It's now a direct connection to the consumer."

Gaming companies pay a lot of attention to the data they collect, structuring and using it to make business decisions and serve customers better, he notes. It's a heavily data-driven industry. And of course, game firms are always looking to dig deeper into the data to boost their competitive edge.

Gamasutra: Jori Hamilton's Blog - Video Games And Addiction - Finding A Healthy Balance

Addiction is a very serious issue when it comes to video games and should not be ignored. This doesn’t mean that, as a society, we need to ban video games or give them up. We just need to be aware of the dangers and warning signs so that we reap only the positive benefits of playing video games.

If video games are, by design, something that encourages the formation of habit, then why is the world shocked when people exhibit addictive behavior from gaming? The video game industry has, in the last decade or so, turned the addictive quality of their games from a side-effect of their design into the driving force behind the games themselves . It’s a way to generate obscene amounts of profit from those who become addicted.

The 20 best-selling video games during the coronavirus pandemic - Business Insider

Starting in March, millions of Americans were forced indoors by the coronavirus pandemic as shelter in place orders took place and social distancing was encouraged.

Unsurprisingly, at the same time, video game hardware and software sales skyrocketed. Millions of people, many with young children, suddenly needed ways to occupy vast quantities of time at home.

As such, Nintendo's Switch has been outright sold out. The company's latest major game, "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" is outright having a moment. And the latest "Call of Duty" is more popular than ever — despite having launched months ago.
