CORONAVIRUS: Parents, You’re Letting Strangers Into Your Kids’ Bedroom, Moms, Watch
BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — We’re not publishing photos of what we’re receiving and seeing ourselves, but we will let your imagination do what it does: parents are apparently unaware of what the world sees when their kids are taking part in Google Meets and Zoom conferences with their teachers and classmates.
We encourage parents to double check the camera view of the computers their kids are using…make sure Google Meet or Zoom is not just closed but “x’ed out” as kids now say — to ensure there’s no unexpected broadcasting.

Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc.
WASHINGTON , April 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc. ("Vanda") (Nasdaq: VNDA) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) today announced a research partnership focused on the investigation of small molecules with the potential to treat COVID-19.
SARS-CoV-2 and other viruses depend on cathepsin L for processing in target cells. The viral glycoproteins need to be primed by protease cleavage, activating them for fusion with the host cell membrane. Previous research has demonstrated the potential of small molecules to inhibit the cathepsin L cleavage of viral peptides with minimal inhibition of physiological substrate cleavage.
Improving the efficiency of precise genome editing with site-specific Cas9-oligonucleotide
Site-specific chemical conjugation of proteins can enhance their therapeutic and diagnostic utility but has seldom been applied to CRISPR-Cas9, which is a rapidly growing field with great therapeutic potential. The low efficiency of homology-directed repair remains a major hurdle in CRISPR-Cas9–mediated precise genome editing, which is limited by low concentration of donor DNA template at the cleavage site.
Here, we overcame these problems by generating chemically modified Cas9 mutants that were compatible with modified or unmodified oligonucleotides and improved the efficiency of HDR-mediated genome editing. Specifically, we used genetic code–expansion technology to chemically modify a Cas9 protein with an azide-containing noncanonical amino acid (ncAA) at selected positions.
