Rose and Rosie: how video games play a role in our marriage | Games | The Guardian

Rose taught me everything she knew about gaming. Her knowledge, teamed with her determination to exact revenge on innocent bystanders who were simply respawning in GTA, was hot. Plus I liked the noises when she tapped on the controller.

I learned about different consoles, different types of games and I quickly figured out for myself which was my favourite.

Whether she's falling down a cliff, running into her own goal or driving into oncoming traffic, some spark of humanity forces me to congratulate her on her success. Is it love? Or pity?

Codes and Genies: A History of Video Game Cheating | Design News

If you grew up in the days of the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), or even in the earlier Commodore 64 or Atari days, there's one thing that can be said for certain. You played a lot of hard games – very hard games. Gamers have even adopted the phrase "Nintendo hard" to refer to modern games whose extreme difficulty hearkens back to the days before walkthrough videos on Youtube, websites and message boards, and even the ability to save your progress in your game.

What's the social effect of videogames?

Researchers in Norway studied the social effects of videogames by following 873 children at ages 6, 8, 10 and 12.

Researchers also found better social competence at ages 8 and 10 was associated with less gaming two years later for both boys and girls.

Scientists say videogames may influence girls more negatively because gaming isn't typically a big part of socialization for them. On the other hand, boys often play in the company of their friends.

This Video Game Portrays Hitler Winning In World War II | The National Interest

Key point: Despite its '90s roots, Wolfenstein: The New Order is a refreshing shooter that doesn't attempt to squeeze in mediocre multiplayer

Despite the franchise's age, Wolfenstein remains in the category of "new nostalgia" for some. While it has deeper origins—starting with 2D adventure game Castle Wolfenstein, which made its Apple II debut in 1981—the series is well known for its seminal contribution to the first-person shooter genre with 1992's Wolfenstein 3D. For some of us that doesn't really seem like so long ago, does it?
