Hideo Kojima’s Strange, Unforgettable Video-Game Worlds - The New York Times

Kojima proceeded to play perhaps the strangest three and a half minutes of video ever to grace the E3 stage. Keep in mind that this is a venue where cybernetic dinosaurs and giant-felling samurai are par for the course. The video opened with a William Blake poem, the first lines of "Auguries of Innocence," then cut to a close-up of highly realistic computer-generated sand. The camera floated over the sand, revealing a jumble of dead crabs.

There was no hint as to the story, the gameplay or even the genre of the game. It was all mood and symbol and Norman Reedus's shiny posterior. It was more like something you'd see at MoMA than at E3. But the crowd went wild.

Wargaming Is Using Video Games to Support Veterans' Mental Health | Built In Austin

There's no doubt that war is traumatic for the individuals who serve, but too often that stress follows them even after they get home.

The U.S. government reports that 11-20 out of every 100 veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom have PTSD in a given year. It's important that these individuals get the mental health resources they need, but some veterans are finding their own form of therapy through video gaming.

The future of Mars colonization begins with VR and video games - CNET

"It's getting easier all the time to tell the story of sending people to Mars because now we have all these tools," Burk said. "People are more accepting of that reality now."

Just hours after Surviving Mars was announced in May 2017, people took to the internet to argue (as they do) about how much of the game was factual and how much was science fiction. They went so far as to exchange formulas determining whether wind turbines would really be a plausible way to generate electricity on Mars, as they are in the game, Dyankov said.

Best gaming console ever: Nintendo Switch reigns 3 years after debut - The Washington Post

That's not to discount or ignore the sheer variety and unmatched ingenuity found on the PlayStation 2, nor the history made on Nintendo's own Super Nintendo. But the Switch is now the console I see myself playing for years to come, mostly because the games on it are already tested and proven to be timeless classics. Three years after its release, it's the one platform that consolidates so many fantastic games, all in a single, attractive and deceptively powerful handheld device.

The cultural and historical significance of video game music - Highlander

The film "Sonic the Hedgehog," has the highest grossing opening weekend of any video game movie on record which may be attested to all its fanservice. The most touching of which comes near the end of the film, where a piano suite version of "Green Hill Zone" plays in the background.

Like film, VGM brings the audience original pieces of music by hired composers. The difference is, where film is set as an absolute start to finish project, video games give players full control; this means the composers have to be more calculated about what music is going to accompany the player in a certain setting. The "Green Hill Zone" music was so recognizable in the Sonic film because of its constant looping and use in the first level of the iconic game, "Sonic the Hedgehog.
