The best game movies, including Sonic the Hedgehog | TechRadar
It's fair to say that movies based on games have a pretty bad reputation, and not for an entirely unfair reason. Can they all be bad? Well, no. Just most of them.
Just like anything else, game movies have their good moments, too. In rare cases, they're well made and do the games they're based on justice. Sometimes they're kinda crap, but joyously entertaining regardless.
With that in mind, we've decided to put together a list of the best video game movies to date. Not all of them can be considered 'good movies', but every one of them aims to entertain and mostly gets away with it. We've added the new Sonic movie to this list, too, since it's pretty fun if you don't mind switching your brain off.
Not so white, male and straight: the video games industry is changing | Games | The Guardian
T he old stereotype of video game players as spotty, socially isolated boys in basements is finally disappearing after decades, but the popular image of game developers is enduring. They are imagined to be white and beardy, with glasses and a probable fondness for sci-fi and fantasy, and this is hardly unjustified. Cast an eye over the development floor of pretty much any major game developer in the western world and there's an undeniable homogeneity.
On two of those measures – BAME representation and LGBTQ+ representation – the games industry comes out above the average for the UK's creative industries. But when it comes to gender balance, it still lags far behind, at 68% male. However, this still represents progress: in 2009, according to the International Game Developers Association, only 11.5% of game developers identified as female. The number of women involved in all areas of the games industry has been creeping upwards.
8-Bit — the big band that plays video game music — returns to Berklee next month - The Boston
Love video games? Love jazz music? One widely acclaimed big band that combines the two is slated to stop by town next month. The 8-Bit Big Band plays tunes from popular video games like "Legend of Zelda" and "Super Mario Bros." With 33 members and a handful of special guests ( Grace Kelly , Leo P , and Carlos Eiene a.k.a. Insaneintherain ), the band returns to Berklee College of Music after selling out there last fall.

A. Video game music is similar to generalized bodies of music in the past, such as the Great American Songbook, top 40, and jazz standards. Because there was a collective experience of consuming video games in the '80s, '90s, and 2000s, we are now forming a new video game songbook that is standard repertoire and all these people know. Much in the same way that famous conductors would play film scores, we now have a songbook of video game music we can pay tribute to.

'Sonic the Hedgehog' Carried the Presidents Day Weekend Box Office.
Sonic the Hedgehog carried the Presidents Day weekend box office—a huge feat for a film that seemed to have all the trappings of a bona fide box office bomb.
ViacomCBS ' Paramount Pictures faced a massive wave of online mocking when an early trailer for the film dropped in April 2019 . The backlash—focused on the studio's human-like portrayal of the beloved blue hedgehog—was so widespread, it prompted Paramount to delay the film so it could completely redesign its title character .
