This year marks the start of a new decade, and the end of a generation of video games. Sony and Microsoft are set to launch new systems during the holidays, marking the beginning of a new phase in gaming. But that’s good news: Traditionally, the games launched at the end of a generation are among that generation’s best.

Computers, synt-wave, betrayal, and Keanu Reeves — Cyberpunk 2077 is the most hyped game of the year. Fresh from the success of The Witcher 3 , developer CD Projekt Red has gone from medieval fantasy to the dark and gritty world Night City in the year 2077.

Movie Review '1917': War as Video Game and Ceremony | National Review
W hat the impeachment show trial walk-through needed (as broadcast in real time — another of network and cable TV's Breaking News intrusions) was Martin Scorsese's GoodFellas steadicam to make the fabricated excitement feel momentous. Instead, the awkwardly staged Engrossment Ceremony was non-scintillating TV. You might be giddy, like CBS's Nora O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan, or enraged by the mockery of justice.
For civilian filmmakers such as Mendes, war is not a recalled experience, it is an engrossment ceremony. Mendes, a theater phenom, broke into Hollywood as a master of contrivance with American Beauty (1999), followed by several other America-based films. He didn't make a single movie set in England proper until 2012's James Bond opus Skyfall . Now, using war in the spirit of Scorsese's one-shot GoodFellas gimmick, Mendes confirms that contrivance has replaced moral and political response.

Video games: Remade and remastered in 2020 – Loveland Reporter-Herald
When I first started to write about games in 1992, the future of gaming seemed outrageous. Thinking of the industry in 2020 evoked dreams of technological marvels and inconceivable wonders. Now that we're here, gaming in 2020 is both more and less than I imagined.
Take, for instance, one of my most anticipated games set to be released in the next couple of months: "Final Fantasy VII Remake."
In 1992, I looked pleadingly toward "Final Fantasy V," a game that would take seven years to make it to the West when Nintendo passed it over for being "too complicated for Americans."
