Criminals are making virtual connections with children through gaming and social media platforms. One popular site warns visitors, "Please be careful."

But about six weeks later, Kate saw something appalling pop up on the screen: a video of bestiality involving a young boy. Horrified, she scrolled through her son’s account on Discord, a platform where gamers can chat while playing. The conversations were filled with graphic language and imagery of sexual acts posted by others, she said.

The healing power of video games against depression – Reader's Feature | Metro News
Having written to GC about the positive effects of playing Celeste before, they kindly suggested I write a Reader's Feature about my experience of depression. I still believe I'm an optimist who finds joy in the smallest moments and who loves to make the world a better place simply by being kind whenever possible. To fall from that position to how I currently feel is agonising.
In those moments of clarity, I can see that everything I believe when in its grip is nonsense, but the power of depression is that it's able to convince me, my memory or even words I wrote to myself, that only its truth is real. That it would be better if I had never existed. It sucks enjoyment from even my most beloved hobbies. Depression makes them all seem pointless and joyless. Even playing games, my unassailable happy place since the tender age of four, could not escape its grip.

Facebook is selling Oculus Medium, a 3-D virtual reality sculpting tool used in filmmaking and video games, to software giant Adobe

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg bought Oculus, a technology and virtual reality company, in 2014 for $2 billion after the Federal Communications Commission approved the acquisition, though the companies still operate separately. The terms of Medium's sale weren't immediately disclosed.
Fears about video games fade as annual sales top $150B
In Victorian times, people feared the effect of novels on the young. In the 1950s, comic books, then rock 'n' roll, were the boogie men. In the 1970s, it was Dungeons & Dragons. Now some people fear video games.
This is even better news than you'd think. Bob predicted a decade ago that video games would outpace movie box-office numbers. That pace keeps accelerating. People now spend $150 billion a year on video games, nearly five times what they are expected to spend this year on seeing movies. Things will get worse, or maybe better, depending on which company's stock you own.

'Free Guy' trailer shows a video game NPC without chains | Engadget
Fox has posted the first trailer for the video game action-comedy Free Guy , and it appears ready to answer a lingering question: what if the trivial non-player characters in your favorite shooter realized they were in a game? The clip shows actor, producer and new wireless magnate Ryan Reynolds as a blissfully oblivious NPC who fulfills his background role in a Grand Theft Auto -style game until he questions his purpose and, naturally, becomes a hero that saves his virtual world.

New Chinese Video Game Lets Players Attack Hong Kong Protestors - InsideHook
The game's title? The Post has it translated as "Everybody Hit the Traitors," while Vice 's report on the game translates it as "Fight the Traitors Together." Either way, you get the general idea.
Who created the game is currently a mystery. The South China Morning Post writes that coverage of it in state-sponsored media within China has been glowing — though that may be deceiving.
It's not currently known who created the game, but it's been reported by the state-owned tabloid Global Times , which claims the game is popular on Chinese social media. But searches show the game is barely mentioned on mainstream social media platforms WeChat, Weibo and Zhihu.
Can video games inspire serious art?
AKRON, Ohio – Modern and contemporary art have long had an elitist aura as a form of highbrow intellectual entertainment for the cognoscenti – insiders in the know.
So what would a truly populist art look like at a 21st century moment when populism, like it or not, is a major driving force in politics and culture?
The Akron Art Museum , perhaps more than any other Northeast Ohio fine arts institution, has been trying to pose some constructive answers to that question.
