The Best Video Games of 2019 | GQ

2019 was one of the more diverse years in video games that I can remember. It felt like no matter what you were into—big-budget games, first-person shooters, focused and intimate indie experiences, hardcore systemic RPGs, you name it—there was probably a great game for you this year. It's also a year that felt slightly left in the lurch.

At this point in time, I'm pretty sure Respawn (the studio behind Titanfall , Apex , and Jedi: Fallen Order ) could make anything and it would be fantastic. Apex Legends was a bit of a pet project and an experiment for the team, a low stakes entry into the incredibly crowded battle royale genre that exploded in popularity once it was released.

Oakland University adds varsity esports team, celebrates video games

In a digital age, colleges have been increasingly offering virtual classes. It was only a matter of time before they also would be giving students a chance to try out for virtual sports.

Oakland University announced Friday morning at — where else? An Auburn Hills gaming center — it is Michigan's first Division I school, the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the NCAA, with a varsity esports team.

It's the latest craze on college and high school campuses, but also the bane of some professors and parents, who aren't yet convinced that it's actually a sport or even anything more than a mind-rotting fad.

Birds Of Prey's Black Canary Actually Knew The Character From Video Games

Such was the case when Jurnee Smollett-Bell found out she'd be suiting up as Black Canary for Birds of Prey . But, instead of knowing about the crime fighter with the canary cry from DC comics or the many shows on The CW that have featured her for the past several years, Smollett-Bell was familiar with Dinah Lance from a very specific video game.

I mean for me, it's such an honor to be bringing Black Canary to film, you know? Black Canary, she's such a legendary character, and I became a fan of her from Injustice 2 . And it's been amazing to work with these rockstar women, and feel the sisterhood that we have, and we all became so close too. It's been a dream. It's such a dream.

'That's something I do on video games': Inside Terps' Aaron Wiggins' highlight-reel dunk against

With the No. 3 Maryland men's basketball team leading Notre Dame 30-20 with 5.8 seconds left in the first half Wednesday night, Anthony Cowan Jr. was fouled, setting up an inbounds play to the left of his team's basket. The play was set up for sophomore wing Aaron Wiggins to curl around a double screen set by Jalen Smith and Darryl Morsell. Wiggins caught the pass from Cowan and shot a 3-pointer with three seconds left.

What happened next is something few who witnessed it in person or watched on it on the ESPN telecast could ever recall seeing before.

Heyward's first big project was a game called Green Hero, where the main character tries to save the world and fight climate change. A large proponent of Heyward's characters and game storylines are driven by their interest in conservation and desire to see more character diversity.

Green Hero went on to win the National STEM Video Game Challenge, which only solidified Heyward's passion for video game design.

"I felt really passionate about it," Heyward said about Green Hero. "And that passion made me know that I could keep doing this, over and over."

Minecraft tops YouTube list of most-watched video games in 2019 • Eurogamer.net

Minecraft is, by far and away, the most popular video game on YouTube, according to new figures released by the video platform as part of its end-of-year round-up.

To celebrate the imminent evaporation of 2019, YouTube has unveiled its latest Rewind video, offering a brisk, but still almost entirely insufferable, run-down of the things viewers have fixated on the most over the last 12 months.

The most pertinent section (for us at least), arrives around the 2:30-mark - but if you'd rather not subject yourself to YouTube's nonsense, allow me to supply the key details.
