The use of robots in U.S. workplaces has more than doubled since the Great Recession, but the impact has hit certain areas of the country — and segments of workers — more than others.
A recent report from The Century Foundation found Midwestern states such as Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin saw the sharpest growth in robots being used in the workplace from 2009 to 2017, and these areas now have the highest levels of "robot intensity" in the country.

A Rutgers-led team of engineers has developed an automated way to produce polymers, making it much easier to create advanced materials aimed at improving human health.
While a human researcher may be able to make a few polymers a day, the new automated system - featuring custom software and a liquid-handling robot - can create up to 384 different polymers at once, a huge increase over current methods.
Bomb squad test drives Spot, the robot -- GCN
The Massachusetts State Police have tested a four-legged robot named Spot for remote observation of potentially hazardous situations.
Built by Boston Dynamics, Spot could be described as a mechanical dog, but it is actually a general-purpose, battery-powered robotic platform that can accommodate different components – stereo cameras, sensors and mechanical arms – and can right itself if it tips over. It also features an accessible application programming interface that allows third parties to develop specific applications for it.
This robot lets you remotely surveil your cat and track its daily step count - The Verge
Launched on Kickstarter, Ebo doesn't exactly represent a new concept in pet tech, but it does manage to combine features from a number of products we've seen before.
In other words: it's a pretty complete pet surveillance package. Users can even set schedules for Ebo's activity. The company says the robot is able to autonomously return to its charging dock when it runs out of battery.

The best defense is to use your best judgment. Ask yourself: does the product look legitimate? Is the company making outlandish claims? Is there a working prototype? Does the company mention existing plans to manufacture and ship finished products? Has it completed a Kickstarter before?
