On Jan. 13, 2016, the unthinkable happened as the largest lottery jackpot in history was won by a Melbourne Beach couple.
David Kaltschmidt and his wife, Maureen Smith, purchased one of three winning Powerball tickets for a jackpot that paid out $1.58 billion.
Their share of the jackpot was $528 million, to which they took a lump sum payout of $327,835,077, before taxes.
