The idea behind the Short Play column was to recommend games that anyone could finish in a weekend, because people finishing games turns out to be a surprisingly rare occurrence. And the longer a game gets, the more difficult it becomes.
We've recommended 26 different short games over the last year, but if you are looking for the best of the best, here are six games that have stood out from the rest for one reason or another. And they're short enough that you might even be able to finish them all before the end of the year. (Unless it's December 31st, then I can't really guarantee that.)

Like every year, however, we have to pick one title as the best of the best. Then again, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't recognize all of the other great games that came out, either.

If you're looking for a charming role-playing game that's different from most JRPGs, then Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is certainly worth a look. The long running alchemy-based series still lets you craft and create new items using stuff you gather from the field. But it also adds some new twists, including a real-time battle system that lets you do tag-team attacks with your allies.

A Contentmas ROUNDTABLE: What's the best video game cheat of all-time? - Dirty South Soccer
In case you didn't know Atlanta United hired a eSports gamer to game in the MLS eSports league because it was tired of losing to MarschKljestanMcCartyFelipe4lyfe in whatever MLS calls its FIFA league.
Apparently Paulo Neto is a human cheat code in video games and if there's one thing we know about sports, "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'" as Joe Montana said probably. This led to a deep discussion about the best way to cheat at video games here at DSS World Headquarters. Since it's the offseason and everything is content, this is the result of that conversation:

The Best 'Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker' Trailer Is For A Video Game
Wow. That's all I can say after watching the extraordinary trailer for Star Wars Battlefront II's 'Celebration Edition.'
The trailer itself is pretty epic—not big on dialogue, but very big on action. There's even some pretty great nostalgia in there, as the game looks back on the whole span of Star Wars and the Skywalker legacy. But the reason I like it best is mostly because of what it leaves out.
I've enjoyed the Episode IX trailers so far, but this one captures that Star Wars vibe and manages to be very exciting without spoiling major plot points, such as the return of a certain character I won't name just in case you've miraculously managed to avoid spoilers all this time despite Disney's best efforts to the contrary.
'Jumanji: The Next Level' Review — Another Surprisingly Great Video Game Movie
'Jumanji: The Next Level' doesn't add much to its predecessor's formula, but its charismatic stars ... [+] and imaginative world keeps things fun and funny from start to finish.
The trapped in a video game plot builds off the 1995 Robin Williams-led Jumanji original. As a boy, Williams's character was sucked into a board game. Decades later he pops back out and the jungle follows him into the real world, where he and several others have to finish playing the board game in order to send the jungle, and all its deadly denizens, back into the game.
