Trash-talking robot troll makes people worse at playing video games | New Scientist

Aaron Roth of Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania and his colleagues found that the language a robot opponent used during a competitive game affected how well people played. Negative comments from the robot caused humans to play less rationally.

The researchers used a humanoid robot developed by SoftBank Robotics. It is equipped with cameras and microphones and can speak and move.

With Exotic Cats & Video Games, Doc Exhibits LGBTQ-Friendly Care

He ran to the kitchen, only to realize he hadn't unpacked his fire extinguisher after a recent move. He strapped on a fire mask to look for the cats, but when the mask broke, he collapsed from smoke inhalation . He woke up, ran to the basement to search for them, but passed out again. When he regained consciousness, he stumbled out of the burning building, moments before the windows blew out, glass lacerating his body as he stood helpless on the lawn.

With the help of his wife, Lauren Powers, DO, he slowly recovered. The couple traveled around national parks in an RV. They played video games and went to electronic music concerts. And they got four new cats.

We (Almost) Got the 'Star Wars' and 'Pokemon' Video Games We Always Wanted - Geek.com

Last week two of the biggest games of the year, arguably the last two big games of 2019, finally launched. But since Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Pokemon Sword and Shield don't compete in terms of platforms, these two alpha dogs can coexist. Not to spoil my own game of the year list, but after playing these two games I wound up having to reorder some of my picks.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is hardly the first good Star Wars video game. There have been great Star Wars video games for almost as long as there have been great Star Wars movies. The dream that Fallen Order fulfills then is the hope the franchise could become good again under the care of EA .

Video Game Industry's Selective Boom Will Only Worsen As Sector Gets Bigger, Broader

The video game industry is having one of its best years ever, but not every corner of the business is thriving. A New Museum Show Explores How America's Obsession With Video Games Changed Visual Art |

"Open World," a new exhibition at the Akron Art Museum, explores the many ways artists are influenced by video game culture.

* * *

When the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) acquired 14 video games in 2014—including Myst , Pac-Man , and The Sims— it raised a lot of eyebrows. Should such arguably lowbrow entertainment be given the seal of approval from one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in America? But artists, always ahead of institutions, had already been using video games as source material, or even as a medium, for years.

Best-selling video games of October — Call of Duty, The Outer Worlds - Business Insider

October is usually one of the biggest months of the year for new video game releases as eager publishers look to get their best games out on the shelves for the holiday season. But with multiple studios prepping for the launch of the Sony PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Project Scarlett next year, a bunch of blockbuster titles are waiting until 2020 to launch.

That's left room for some lesser known games to take the spotlight, like Obsidian Entertainment's " The Outer Worlds ." "The Outer Worlds" was the second-best selling game of October, according to data from the NPD Group. It was surpassed only by "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare," the latest entry into the perennial best-selling franchise.
