MADISON, Wis. – The sun was setting on a frigid November day as 6E24 rolled up outside Dejope Residence Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and parked, awaiting human contact.

From the push of a button on the man's smartphone, 6E24 received a signal that this was the man it was sent to meet. It unlocked its lid and the man opened the picnic-basket-on-wheels and retrieved a Coke and a bottle of juice placed there by a dining hall employee.

Robot debates humans about the dangers of artificial intelligence | New Scientist
An artificial intelligence has debated with humans about the the dangers of AI – narrowly convincing audience members that AI will do more good than harm.
Project Debater, a robot developed by IBM, debated on both sides of the argument, with two human team mates for each side helping it out. Speaking in a female American voice to a crowd at the University of Cambridge Union on Thursday evening, the AI gave each side's opening statements, using arguments drawn from more than 1100 human submissions ahead of time.

Upon entering Decathlon, an AI-forward sporting goods store located on Market Street in San Francisco, I was cheerfully greeted by a human sales associate who asked if he could be of assistance. "I'm here to see your robot," I confessed as he walked me over to Tally who was busy scanning RFID tags. Her message said, "Stock Check" but quickly changed to "Hi, I'm Tally!" as I leaned in for a photo.
"People come in all day long to selfie with her," the sales associate told me. "She's great for business because she draws customers into the store, but she's not a tourist attraction. Tally is on staff to provide insights into how to better manage our merchandise."
