Interactive displays at the Miraikan museum in Tokyo make science fun - Stripes

The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, more commonly known as Miraikan, showcases Japan's leading studies in science and technology! Calendar - Philadelphia, PA ...Calendar Explore the Halloween-themed paintings of renowned Philadelphia artist Peter Paone (born 1936) at the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Halloween has long been a subject of fascination for the artist and in the last decade he has produced a series of works devoted to the theme.!! The museum offers an interactive, hands-on learning experience enjoyable for visitors of all ages.

Located in the Tokyo Bay area of Odaiba, Miraikan offers various exhibits on robots, space, neutrino observation and environmental issues throughout its seven-story glass-sided building.

Some displays, such as those on neutrino and elementary particles, sound intimidating, but the hands-on exhibits are fun and engaging, which makes visitors forget that they are looking at science exhibits.

Visitors are welcomed by a large hanging globe when they enter Miraikan's second and third floors, where the permanent exhibits are displayed.

The Geo-Cosmos, which the museum refers to as a symbol of Miraikan, is covered with thousands of organic light-emitting diode panels. Organic LEDs are lighter and more energy efficient than regular LEDs.

Fun Science FRIEDay – Inception | Southern Fried Science

Inception, a clever movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio where the premise of the story is to sneak into a person’s subconscious and implant an idea or a memory whilst they sleep. When the person awakes from their slumber they cannot distinguish the implanted memory from their own. It makes for blockbuster cinematography, but the practical concept is quite frightening to think about: the ability to artificially implant memories inches closer to the prospect of reality distortion.

In a major breakthrough, scientists have waded into the realm of the fantastical by accomplishing the difficult task of Inception . Researchers at the  University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center have been working on understanding how memories are encoded in the brain, specifically using  Zebra finches to understand memories that guide the development of speech and social skills.

In case you are keeping track:

Things Go BOOM at King’s College, for Halloween, science fun | Times Leader

Dozens of eager children waved their “pick-me, pick-me” arms, each hoping associate professor of chemistry Trent Snider would choose him or her to help with a scientific demo Tuesday evening as the 23rd annual “Things that Go Boom in the Night” got under way at King’s College.

“I need somebody who comes every year,” Snider said, choosing a girl in a Superwoman costume.

“Now, someone whose favorite subject is science,” he said, choosing a third young helper.

Carefully donning safety goggles, the helpers each took a turn holding a long-handled torch to one of three balloons filled with hydrogen.

Thanks to the resulting “booms” and balls of fire, perhaps science had just become the favorite subject of everyone in a crowded Burke Auditorium, from parents and Scoutmasters to kids like 10-year-old Madison Dempsey, of Swoyersville.
