The Area 51 Raid Was the Worst Way to Spot an Alien or UFO | WIRED

Normally, when you turn onto Highway 375 from Crystal Springs, in Nevada, a big green road sign sits near picnic tables and shade trees baking under the relentless desert sun. EXTRATERRESTRIAL HIGHWAY, the sign reads, in a retro-futuristic font suggestive of a space computer! This road was so named—around the time Independence Day came out—because it's the stretch of asphalt closest to Area 51. Many a curious visitor have traveled its miles, watching for jet tests and drone forays, hoping to see something they might later boast was a UFO. For decades, some have thought the secretive base holds not just jets within its boundaries but also maybe aliens and their technology! But the region kind of embraces its notoriety with a wink-wink and a nudge-nudge.

US Navy confirms videos show unidentified aerial phenomena, not aliens - Business Insider

In 2017, The New York Times published a story that chronicled an in-air interaction between US Navy pilots and a strange object near San Diego.

The pilots had snagged footage of an oblong flying object with their F-18's gun camera on November 14, 2004. The object appeared dark against the bright daytime sky before "suddenly and instantaneously accelerating to the left, out of view of the [camera] sensor at what appears to be an unprecedented velocity," the video narrates.

That video was one of three instances in which Navy pilots caught an unknown aerial object on camera; the latter two videos were both recorded on January 21, 2015 , giving rise to speculation that they depict the same object.

On Wednesday, Joseph Gradisher, the Navy's spokesman for the deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare, confirmed that his organization designated "the objects contained in these videos as unidentified aerial phenomena."

UFO Sightings Will Soon Peak. Don't Blame The Government

A crescent Moon and the planets Mercury and Venus over the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Paranal Observatory in Chile.

However, before you start to panic, know that the bright light is nothing more than a close planet coming back into view after a while behind the Sun.

It is, of course, super-bright planet Venus and–for a limited time only–it can be seen with the hardest-to-see tiny planet Mercury.

Venus has been hidden for a while observable only before dawn for much of 2019, and until recently lost in sunlight! It reached what astronomers call "superior conjunction" (when it appears to go behind the Sun from our point of view on Earth) back in mid-August, but it's only now beginning to move away from the glare of the setting Sun. The same goes for Mercury, which was hidden by the Sun's glare completely during its superior conjunction on September 4.

Their function, for the most part, seems to be to act so scary that you don't consider breaking the rules.!! Said festival had spun off from a joke Facebook event, a suggestion gone viral that a herd of humans could break into Area 51 and learn the military base's alien secrets . The joke spawned the very real Alienstock and the "Storm Area 51 Basecamp" experience planned for the other end of Highway 375, a stretch of pavement officially labeled Extraterrestrial Highway. The creator of the Facebook post has since moved Alienstock to Las Vegas, but the residents of Rachel are still bracing for an onslaught of visitors.

There's some irony in Arnu's anti-Storm stance. After all, on Dreamland Resort, Arnu has spent 20 years chronicling his Area 51 adventures and discoveries, creating probably the world's most thorough public repository of Dreamland documentation and providing a place for other investigators to congregate. He created the site because he wanted to share Area 51 with the whole planet. Area 51 is where several super-secret, very cool aviation projects originated.

Viral video of unidentified lights off NC's Outer Banks has people questioning — aliens or

Video of a mysterious group of lights in the sky captured off North Carolina's Outer Banks by a man visiting the area has gone viral on Youtube, sparking the classic debate: Was it aliens, or the military?

The video entitled “real UFO sighting,” was originally posted to the Youtube account of Williams Guy on Sept. 28 and shows what appears to be 14 glowing lights hovering motionless above the water.

The 30-second video shows Guy filming an empty ocean and sky on a boat with the lights out of frame saying, “Look, nothing in the sky at all, then all of a sudden...” Guy then turns the camera to the glowing orbs that don’t appear to be moving at all.

“Anybody tell me what that is?” Guy continues in the video, as onlookers can be heard in the background giving off sounds of shock and amazement at the spectacle.

UFO fans stop just short of Area 51 - Los Angeles Times

Jebb McAfee drove down the narrow desert road as far as he could and parked near some other cars alongside the scrub brush. In front of him and his two friends was a barricade, a stop sign and a dream.

The three had traveled all the way from Florida to get here: The back entrance to the top-secret military base Area 51.

Caleb Lower said they hadn't slept in 24 hours. It was the big moment, though, and they weren't going to screw it up.

* * *

The trio strode past the barrier toward the entrance a few hundred yards away. Police vehicles came into view. So did cameras on top of tall poles that watched them right back. An armed man in military fatigues — along with a German shepherd — stood behind a red-and-white gate arm.

Hundreds of people began arriving at the gate Friday. They came in tinfoil hats and orange jumpsuits. One guy arrived in his pajamas holding a bottle of liquor. They posed for pictures. Many sprinted the last 100 yards before stopping at the gate.
