"There won’t be a Videogame Writing Award in 2020," a WGA spokesperson said in a statement to  The Hollywood Reporter . "However, the category will be reinstated when there is a critical mass of video games covered by the WGA in order to provide a meaningful award selection process.

The WGA has honored video game writing since 2008 The Videogame Writing Award is voted on by members of the WGA's video game writers caucus, a collection of professional video game writers who are members of the WGA West union

While the WGA has opted not to present an award for writing in games, various other organizations still honor the industry, including London's BAFTA Game Awards (which expanded its categories this year to include a supporting actor award and expanded honors for animation) and the annual Game Awards held in Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater in December.

Why vintage video games and consoles like SNES Classic are so popular - Insider
Back in 2017, Nintendo launched a console that was incredibly difficult to find following its release. Retailers sold out of preorders almost immediately and struggled to stock their shelves to keep up with demand

The success of Nintendo's revived retro consoles is just one of several indications that vintage video games are as popular as ever. Game publisher Activision also released the "Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy" in 2017, a revival of the platformer saga that game studio Naughty Dog originally launched in 1996, which also went on to sell more than 10 million units. You're never alone in video games anymore.

This might make me sound antisocial, like someone who grew up escaping into games. There might be some truth to that, but I don't really think of it that way. To me, it's more like I was dealing with people all day long at school, figuring out who I was, and loved farting around in these weird little worlds with imaginary problems and catchy repetitive music and sloppy mistranslated dialogue. When all there was on TV were Looney Tunes reruns, games like Mega Man 2 and Bionic Commando were like being transported to a vibrant fever dream. These alternate realities rarely made sense and were supremely charming because of it. You weren't playing for the story because games then really only had loose premises. There was a sort of Zen-like meditative quality to all those games: You were alone in a universe where nothing made sense but governed by a reassuring balance and alien logic once you got started.
