WASHINGTON — Leaders of several national space agencies endorsed continued cooperation in space exploration, including missions to the moon, and said that effort should not come into conflict with separate work to address climate change.
Speaking at a panel of agency leaders during the 70 th International Astronautical Congress here Oct. 21, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said he expected more countries to join the agency's return to the moon after commitments made earlier this year by Canada and last week by Japan.
"We need international partners. We can all do more when we work together," he said during a session that included representatives from Canada, Europe, India, Japan and Russia.
The European Space Agency is likely the next agency to make a decision on cooperation, at its next ministerial meeting in Spain in late November! Those decisions, ESA Director General Jan Woerner said, will include producing additional service modules for the Orion spacecraft and providing modules for the lunar Gateway.

Astronauts may be placed in hibernation for journey to Mars, says European Space Agency scientist
A stronauts travelling to Mars could be put into hibernation to prevent fights breaking out on the seven month flight and avoid using up resources, a scientist at the European Space Agency (Esa) has suggested.
Professor Mark McCaughrean, Senior Science Advisor in the Directorate of Science at Esa, said the agency was now seriously considering placing passengers into a kind of 'suspended animation' and experiments were already ongoing in animals.
"I think it's possible," he told The Telegraph at the launch of the Moving to Mars exhibition at the Design Museum in London.
"We're even doing experiments now on artificial hibernation to put someone under for seven months, and not worry about food...
Irish IoT start-up Davra receives funding from European Space Agency
Davra was one of three Irish companies awarded a share of €1.5m in co-funding from the European Space Agency.
Irish IoT start-up Davra was recently awarded funding from the European Space Agency ( ESA ) Centre for Earth Observation.
The Dublin-based company secured 50pc co-funding for a €570,000 project to develop an integrated satellite and distributed ground sensor system to monitor missing tailings storage facilities (TSFs) in remote locations.
Founded in 2012, Davra has developed an application enablement platform (AEP) that allows system integrators, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end customers to define, build and rapidly bring to market industrial-grade IoT applications.
The announcement was made by Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation Research and Development John Halligan, TD.
