Sound Off: Cover story only represented disgruntled USC faculty | Free Times | postandcourier.com

In reaction to your recent article on [University of South Carolina President Bob] Caslen [" USC Faculty Open Up About the Controversial Hiring of New President ," Oct. 16], I need to write that your reporter only interviewed faculty who have been vocal about their opposition to President Caslen and his selection by the Board of Trustees! Soundoff: Porchfest back with more than 170 acts www.ithacajournal.com/ story ...back...The 13th annual Porchfest will return Sunday, bringing more than 170 musical acts to porches of the Fall Creek and Northside neighborhoods from noon to 6 p.m. One of Ithaca's most popular events ...!! They are loud, but they do not reflect all faculty! Watching Movies with the Sound Off - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org ...Sound _ Off Watching Movies with the Sound Off is the second studio album by American rapper Mac Miller. It was released June 18, 2013, by Rostrum Records. The album continued his changes in musical sound that began with the mixtape Macadelic.Miller described the album as very introspective and very personal.!! The report thus misses representation from across the faculty, myself included, who have been more favorable about President Caslen, even though some of us, myself again included, initially favored another candidate.

At least some of the faculty were never opposed to President Caslen because he has a distinguished military record, which I know is at least one (unstated) reason why some of the more hostile faculty have opposed him. It is not true, as they now say, that the matter was only about the process, because, even before the Board moved to select Caslen as the next UofSC President, the Faculty Senate moved to pass a vote of no-confidence against Caslen.

Many things are taking place:

Mary-Louise Parker Confronts 'The Sound Inside,' and 'Little Shop of Horrors' Is Back For Blood

The play is backed by Lincoln Center Theater and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where it was first staged last year. Directed with freighted restraint by David Cromer, it is only 90 minutes but it certainly lingers longer! Best of Rant & Rave, Vol. 8 | Cover Story | postandcourier.com www.postandcourier.com /free-times/ cover _ story ...I've never met a Free Times reader who didn't feel something about Rant & Rave. The paper's weekly compendium of short, anonymous comments submitted by anyone about (with some light ...!! It feels like a long dark night of two scarred souls.

He notes that she is friendless; she counters that she plays tennis with a fellow academic, but cannot name her. These two lost souls, witty, sharp and relentless in their own ways, who both love literature, are drawn to one another's intensely passionate commitment to the written word.

They're so in the moment, you may find yourself holding your breath, glad that they found each other, and slightly terrified about where their relationship may lead. And if you know Yale, then you're going to be in many-references-to-New Haven heaven.

Both characters are working on creating stories. As Bella tells us what happened to them both, she is also composing notes in a pad about what happened too. Christopher too is writing his own story, about a young man, who may or not be him, who ends up in New York City, committing a terrible act.

5 movies to get you in the Halloween spirit

Despite my love of dressing up, my children vehemently refuse to; they think there are easier ways to get treats! Opinion: Letters to the editor - The Burlington Free Press .../ story ...Readers sound off on the issues – 'Ban the box,' Vermont Gas pipeline, birth control ...Opinion: Letters to the editor. ...I was heartened to read the cover story about the Vermont ...!! But even without costumes, we get into the Halloween spirit with evenings on the sofa as the nights draw in and the evenings get darker.

I'm not very good at staying silent for too long, so I'd be a goner in this sci-fi suspense thriller. Starring Emily Blunt, the movie sees the world ravaged by unknown predators who stalk the land, ready to pounce on anyone who makes a sound! Close Encounters of the Third Kind movie review (1980 ...www.rogerebert.com ..."Close Encounters" had what could be politely described as a troubled production—many hands were employed to put the screenplay together (though Spielberg wound up with the solo credit) and the production ran over-schedule and over-budget—but it is one of the film's considerable achievements that there is not a hint of any of that in the finished product.!! It did make me think about how we would all communicate without sound to survive. Scary, but thought-provoking.

It's been 40 years since the first Halloween movie hit the silver screen. In this reboot, we’re revisited by Michael Myers, who has escaped from a psychiatric institute to cause havoc back in the place where it all started. There are some great moments in the movie, if you can handle the horror… Let’s just say you’ll definitely know it’s Halloween when the credits roll.

Shoddy products being boosted by fake reviews - Your Money

Which? says sellers are gaming the Amazon Marketplace system with fake reviews and other suspicious activity and, as a result, millions of customers are being misled.

The consumer champion sourced a selection of products that typify the thousands of devices made and sold by relatively unknown Chinese brands, which have become increasingly prevalent on online marketplace listings in recent years.

All of them had exceptionally high ratings on Amazon, and in some cases even the coveted 'Amazon's Choice' endorsement.

When Which? put eight of these products through its independent lab tests, three performed so badly they were rated as 'Don't Buys'. Almost all of the products – headphones, vacuum cleaners, dash cams and Bluetooth speakers – fell well short of the average Which? score for product performance in their respective categories.

And here's another article:

5 Rise Of Skywalker Trailer Moments That Point To Palpatine's Potential Survival

We have reason to suspect Palpatine survived Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and, for reasons unknown, has come out of hiding for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker . Here are some scenes from the latest trailer that give credence to that theory, and some speculation that the former emperor is about as bad as he's ever been.

There's a lot that looks new about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker , but a few people noticed a scene that looked like a callback to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back . Much like when Yoda lifted the X-Wing out of the water, we see a Star Destroyer rising up out of the ground in a very similar manner.

If this bad boy got Force pulled out from beneath the dirt, it'd have to be someone with an immense connection to the Force. Palpatine fits the bill and could probably chuck that thing at that giant Resistance squadron to do some major damage That said, there looks to be some lights on in the ship, which may indicate this thing is manned. There's no immense proof Palpatine is behind this feat, though it does seem such a big ship would need more than its own power to be upended from a position below ground.

"Making Waves" Breaking the Sound Barrier - ACED Magazine

Starting with the rudimentary of sound, did you know it's the first thing a fetus receives within six to seven months of pregnancy? When you see someone talking to a pregnant woman's stomach, the developing child hears the person, according to sound editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now). He goes on to say that sound affects us in a deeper way than even an image does. Actually what would today's action movies be like if there were no sound? It would take us back to the beginning of movies where part of the entertainment was a piano and a few sound effects that people are creating behind the big screen to provide an adventure.

* * *

Following an introduction of the beginning sound coupled with comments by sound designers, the lesson begins starting with the 1920's. The early talkies to today's blockbuster action films are the prime entertainment that has shaped the world. In Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound you hear from sound designers, editors, special effects sound as well as comments from directors, actors and more. A lot of people behind the camera are working to make your viewing pleasure special, but they are mostly unsung heroes that unless you read the credits are unknown.
