Warriors sports roundup: Wins for girls soccer, volleyball Tuesday - My Edmonds News

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors and Meadowdale Mavericks closed out their 2019 girls soccer seasons on Tuesday as the Warriors defeated the Mavericks 1-0 in a Wesco League match played at Edmonds Stadium.

With the defeat, the Mavericks finish their year with a league mark of 1-12-1, 1-14-1 overall record.

The Warriors end the regular season with a record of 11-2-1 in 2A/3A Wesco League play, 13-2-1 overall; E-W finished second in the league behind champion Snohomish and will be the No. 2 seed in the District 1 3A Girls Soccer Tournament that begins with play-in games on Thursday, Oct. 31. The Warriors will play their first match in the tourney on Saturday, Nov. 2, 5 p.m. at Edmonds Stadium against an opponent to be determined.

In other sports on Tuesday, the Warriors' volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-23) over the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats in a Wesco League match played at Edmonds-Woodway High School.

A poor start to the season due to newcomers getting used to the speed and physical aspect of varsity play the Patriots have been looking like the team head coach Ron Bucholtz was waiting for from the start.

Starting with a 7-0 thrashing of Grafton in early October, the Patriots won five of their last six outings for the right to play in their fourth-straight regional final.

Lake Mary had won eight state golf championships since 2007, including four consecutive Class 3A titles entering this year’s tournament.

Isabella Galla also finished tied for 11th with Lauren Davenport of Wellington at 2-over 146. Brooke Oberparleiter was tied for 14th with Spanish River’s Sophia Louis at 3-over 147.

The Boca Raton boys didn’t fare as well at Jupiter, but did finish the tournament tied for sixth place.

Leading the Bobcats was Frankie Harris, the 2018 Palm Beach Post Golfer of the Year, with an even par 144 that was good enough for a tie for sixth.
