Now that I have said everything I know about the etymology of the word finger (see the posts on feeling fingers ), and those who agree and disagree with me have also made their opinion public, one more topic has to be discussed, namely, the origin of the verb feel .
The original meaning of feel was "to touch, examine by touching," as in "We… felt over innumerable feet of dark wall for electric light switches" in The Great Gatsby (the beginning of Chapter 8). The metaphorical sense, as in I felt nothing , came later! Google www.google.com Google allows users to search the Web for images, news, products, video, and other content. Gmail!! Assuming for the moment that palpare and feel are related, we may wonder what the origin of the Latin verb is. Palp – begins with and ends in the same consonant and sounds a bit like Engl. plop or pulp . Plop is sound-imitative! With this online service, parents can also view a childs cafeteria purchases, make payments for their children even if they attend different schools, and set up automatic email reminders to be notified when a payment is needed.!! Pulp , from Latin, is a word of unknown origin, and, incidentally, so is pulpit , also from Latin. One can always suggest a borrowing from an unknown language (and this has been done for pulpit ), but equally probable is the conjecture that we are dealing with sound-symbolic or sound-imitative formations, even though it remains unclear what they "symbolize" or imitate! 'Venom 2' Is Starting to Sound a Lot Like 'Maximum Carnage'
Venom 2 is due in theaters in less than a year, and the film is still adding characters. Deadline says Carnage is the "presumptive primary villain" because of his appearance in the post-credits scene from the first Venom (where he was played by a red-haired Woody Harrelson), and now they say that Sony is looking for an actress to cast alongside Carnage as Shriek, who was a mainstay of Spider-Man and Venom comics throughout the 1990s, basically as Carnage's sidekick and partner in crime.
Both characters were featured prominently in the epic Maximum Carnage series that crossed over between all four monthly '90s Spider-Man comics and became one of the decade's signature storylines! Despite lots of effort, it's been leaking an unknown amount of fuel and oil, which has local environmental advocates and commercial fishermen concerned. Oil has been found in sheens in the water, in bits on some beaches and in the marsh itself, indicated by black stains on the spartina grass.
Crews in yellow protective suits have been working 12 hours a day trying to mitigate the effects of the oil, setting up thousands of feet of containment boom, spraying sphagnum moss, a peat absorbent on the grass to keep it from sticking to other surfaces and animals, and removing already dead, oiled marsh grass.

Julie Andrews Reveals Surprising Facts in New Memoir | 94.1 The Sound Seattle
Julie Andrews has just released her second memoir, this one titled "Home Work: A Memoir of My Hollywood Years." She sat down with the TODAY show to talk about what it was like to write a memoir and what can be found in it.
According to TODAY , Andrews reveals a few things in the book that may have been unknown to fans previously. For starters, among her many talents is her abilities with whistling – a little-known fact about Andrews which led her to whistling her way through "Mary Poppins."
She even opens up about a close call she had while on the set of "Mary Poppins," being lowered from wire chords too roughly and almost falling to the ground.
Being honest and open about herself wasn't particularly hard, though. "If I'm going to write a memoir, I might as well be frank," she says.
Andrews goes on to say that her Hollywood years were a little different from what she had known on Broadway, which was the inspiration for the title of her book. "That's why it's called 'Home Work,'" she says, "because it's about the work that I was learning to do on movies which I had never done before, and also homework on myself to a certain extent. How was I growing? What was I learning?"
Fourth Vancouver hotel wins noise fight with striking workers | Vancouver Sun
The Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Downtown Vancouver is the latest to win the right to block striking workers from using sirens, loud drums and noisemakers at the picket line.
Unionized workers have been on strike outside the Hotel Georgia (at Georgia and Howe streets) since Sept 22. The Pinnace Hotel Harbourfront (on Hastings between Thurlow and Bute streets); Hyatt Regency (on Burrard between Dunsmuir and Georgia streets); and the Westin Bayshore (on the water at the top end of Cardero Street) have been behind picket lines since Sept. 19.
On Oct. 2 it was ruled that strikers outside the Pinnacle, Hyatt and Bayshore couldn’t use sirens and could only use whistles and drums on the picket line if the sound was less than 75 decibels. It was also ruled strikers couldn’t impede the movement of people and vehicles on hotel premises.
