If you're looking for a Ghostbusters vibe in video game form, Luigi's Mansion 3 is an excellent choice, and it releases on Halloween day (Oct. 31). Like most games in the Super Mario universe, there is a lot about Luigi's Mansion that is actually colorful and incredibly charming, even when its ghostly antagonists are trying to spook you out. Easily the most family-friendly game on this list, Luigi's Mansion is all about sucking up ghosts and engaging in some light puzzle-solving as you explore a surprisingly large (and diverse) hotel that somehow includes locales like retail shops and a sizable theater.
Developed here in Dallas-Fort Worth by Gearbox Software, Borderlands 3 has attracted millions of players to run, shoot and loot with their friends. From Oct. 24 through Dec. 5, the game will feature a free event called "Bloody Harvest," during which players can explore a new area named Heck (really) and encounter spooky enemy variants like Rakk-O'Lanterns and the sinister Captain Haunt. If jazz musician and Stephen Colbert sidekick Jon Batiste were one of the video game characters he so adores, it would have to be Sonic the Hedgehog. Batiste just keeps moving, fast. During the course of a recent week, the enthusiastic, eclectic musician led his Stay Human band for a TV audience of millions on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." Then he practiced for the Global Citizen Festival where he and the band played with French Montana, Carole King and Kelly Clarkson. Then Batiste moved on to Cafe Carlyle, where he had a week-long jazz residency.
"I played with 12 different bands that week, a different band at Cafe Carlyle every two nights," said Batiste, 32. "That's like 3 hours of sleep or less each night. You gotta soak your arm in Epsom salt because you're playing all day."
But amid the whirlwind, Batiste does make time to relax, often with video games, a medium that shaped both his childhood and career.

Brian Kibler resigned from his role as a commentator at popular gaming convention BlizzCon after video game company Activision Blizzard suspended another player for verbalizing his support for protesters in Hong Kong.
Pro-gamer Chung Ng Wai, who goes by the name Blitzchung, made the comment earlier this month during an official interview after he won a match in a tournament for the digital card game Hearthstone, Vox reports. He recited a slogan of the protest — "Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our time" — while wearing goggles and a face mask, which protestors often wear to hide their identities.
In response, Activision Blizzard announced it would suspend Chung for a year and force him to give up thousands of dollars in prize money, as well as fire the commentators who interviewed him. The company also banned him from the Grandmasters League, which Kibler says is like the professional league for Hearthstone.
