Gluten Free Bread Best | How to Make Gluten Free Bread

Ohmic heating, also known as joule heating, is when electric currents pass through a conductor and the passage itself generates heat. This is possible through what's known as Ohm's Law, developed by German physicist George Ohm in 1827. Ohm was able to prove that a current moving through a conductor from Point A to Point B is directly proportional to the voltage.

Ohm's Law is crucial to the modern world in field like electronics, where it keeps wires from heating. The same technique can be used during cooking.

Gluten-free bread in general requires around twice as much water as wheat-based bread during preparation. That often makes heating more of a time suck, which can make gluten-free bread more expensive! Second-Ever Interstellar Comet Contains Alien Water - Scientific American

Astronomers have spotted signs of water spraying off comet 2I/Borisov, which is flying towards the Sun on a journey from interstellar space! Brain and Cognitive Development Lab Homepage lab ...Lab Welcome to the Brain and Cognitive Development Lab website. We are located in the Psychology Department on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. The lab is directed by Dr. Daniel C. Hyde, Associate Professor of Psychology. We study cognitive development from infancy to adulthood using brain and behavioral measures .!! It is the first time scientists have seen water in our Solar System that originated somewhere else.

“There’s water—that’s cool, that’s great,” says Olivier Hainaut, an astronomer at the European Southern Observatory in Garching, Germany. The discovery isn’t surprising, he says, because most comets contain a lot of water. But confirming its presence in an interstellar comet is an important step towards understanding how water might travel between the stars.

A team led by Adam McKay, an astronomer at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, reported the discovery on 28 October on the arXiv preprint server.

Astronomers have been avidly tracking Borisov ever since its discovery on 30 August, because the comet’s trajectory shows that it comes from deep space—not from the outer Solar System as most comets do. Borisov formed around a distant, unknown star. Billions of years ago something must have kicked it out of orbit and sent it careening here. It is only the second interstellar object ever discovered, after 2017’s ‘Oumuamua.

A cool alternative to air conditioning | EurekAlert-- Science News

VIDEO:  The team have manufactured a polymer film that could be used to cool buildings without using electricity. view more

* * *

A low-cost passive cooling technology made from a polymer film could be used to passively cool buildings in metropolitan areas, avoiding the need for electricity.

Modern air conditioning systems consume significant amounts of energy to cool buildings during the daytime, generating significant amounts of greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. For example, air conditioning accounts for around 15 percent of total primary energy consumption in the United States and can be as high as 70 percent in extremely hot countries like Saudi Arabia.

Technologies that use radiative cooling to control the temperature of buildings, such as planar multilayered photonic films and hybrid metamaterial films, are attracting considerable attention because they do not use electricity; however, they are complicated and costly to manufacture.

UAW-GM deal adds tech committee to address industry changes

The United Auto Workers and General Motors Co. would partner under their new contract to manage the impact of new technologies that threaten a century-old manufacturing process currently employing tens of thousands.

The National Committee on Advanced Technology, created in the tentative UAW-GM agreement, would meet quarterly to address the changes the Detroit automaker must implement as it tests 3D printing, plans to pilot driverless taxis in the streets and introduces globally 20 battery-electric vehicles that require fewer parts than their internal combustion counterparts.

GM says it will bring these electric vehicles to market by 2023 — when the proposed contract with the UAW would expire.

Aliens or military? Strange lights spotted off North Carolina coast | KLFY

OFF THE OUTER BANKS COAST, N.C. – A man recorded what looks like a cluster of glowing lights hovering in the skies off the coast of the North Carolina Outer Banks.

Guy Williams says he was on a ferry when he saw the mysterious lights in the sky. He was nowhere near land.

* * *

There are many opinions on the source of the light. Some think it’s a bunch of drones hovering in the air. Others say it’s aircraft from a nearby military base. And some believe it could be visitors from another planet.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center, North Carolina is considered one of the most active places in the country for UFO sightings.

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG)- For 160 years, the Pensacola Lighthouse has sat at the entrance to Pensacola Bay and thousands of visitors have come every year to explore its history but paranormal investigators say the property has six permanent residents.

Navy confirms videos did capture UFO sightings, but it calls them by another name

Three videos posted online that have been described as being related to UFO sightings do indeed include footage of "unidentified aerial phenomena," a U.S. Navy spokesman confirmed.

But as for specifics, spokesman Joseph Gradisher said the Navy doesn't know exactly what the objects are.

* * *

The website The Black Vault last week first reported the Navy's "unidentified aerial phenomena" designation and said the three videos are commonly known as "FLIR1," "Gimbal" and "GoFast."

The video called FLIR1 shows an oblong-shaped object, which accelerates out of view from sensors. The group says that video is from 2004 and the "2004 Nimitz incident."

In the video called Gimbal , a crew member is heard saying "look at that thing" about an object that they said appeared to be going against the wind. One says they believed it was a drone.

Army partners with former Blink-182 founder’s UFO research company to study alien technology

Much like the universe, the military's affiliation with alien-related subject matter appears to be ever-expanding.

In 2017, the Pentagon confirmed the existence of a program that existed from 2007 to 2012, the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, that was dedicated solely to investigating reports of UFO sightings.

This April, the Navy confirmed it was drafting a fleet-wide message to establish guidelines for pilots and other military personnel to report UFO sightings, the culmination of a surge in what the Navy called a series of intrusions by advanced aircraft on Navy carrier strike groups.

Edward Snowden: No evidence in CIA databases that aliens exist - Business Insider

Edward Snowden shut down the conspiracy theory that the US government is secretly harboring aliens at its top secret facilities during an episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast , which aired on Wednesday.

"I know, Joe, I know you want there to be aliens," he said. "I know Neil deGrasse Tyson badly wants there to be aliens. And there probably are, right?"

Speaking to Rogan from Russia, where he has been granted asylum, Snowden said as far as he knew the US government has not made contact with aliens and is not housing them at their facilities, like that of Area 51 in Nevada.

"But the idea that we're hiding them — if we are hiding them — I had ridiculous access to the networks of the NSA, the CIA, the military, all these groups. I couldn't find anything," he asserted.

Edward Snowden Confirms Aliens Never Contacted the CIA and Moon Landing Did Happen - News18

Despite hundreds of films, science fiction and fantasy novels as well as thousands of conspiracy theories, humans have never found proof of aliens existing or ever contacting Earthlings.

In fact, Area 51, one of the most secretive military bases in the United States, is actively believed by thousands of people to be the site of alien experiments conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). However, CIA employee turned whistle blower Edward Snowden recently debunked one of the biggest conspiracy theories prevalent in the US - that aliens managed to contact the US government and/or its security agencies and that the government actively hides this bit of information from the world.

In his recently released memoir "Permanent Records", however, Snowden revealed that during his time at the CIA, he had searched the CIA databases and resources find out if the US or any of its agencies had ever been in contact with extraterrestrial creatures. However, Snowden found no evidence of any official (or unofficial) contact with aliens. "For the record, as far as I could tell, aliens have never contacted Earth, or at least they haven't contacted US intelligence," Snowden writes in his recent memoir," Snowden wrote.

The Argonaut – Alley Chats: The Resolectrics brought a variety of sound

Audiences were captivated and swept into a blues, R&B and psychedelic rock trance as the base guitar, drums, vocals and a guitar painted a smooth transitioning soundscape for audiences to groove to.

With only three musicians but a very diverse sound, an independent rock band from Portland, Oregon, The Resolectrics , performed at John's Alley Tavern on Oct. 25.

As a trio, it's sometimes a challenge for the band to mix up their sound and add variance to their music. They draw on a legendary psychedelic rock trio, Band of Gypsies, as an influence to add power to their rhythm — and a decked out pedal board to change up the melody of their guitar on a moment's notice! The AMC Dine In theater at the Fashion District opens Nov. 4. Here's what it has to offer.

Good news, movie buffs in Center City and nearby areas — you won't have to go to a parking lot far, far away to be able to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in a posh theater augmented by the latest in laser projection and digital sound.

Nor will you have to go to suburban tundra to see Frozen 2 and hear Idina Menzel sing "Into the Unknown" over 64 individual Dolby speakers that hurl hundreds of bits of digital audio info at each viewer.

Starting Monday, you'll be able to see most of the holiday season's blockbuster features while immersed in state-of-the-art exhibition technology (and possibly also beer and chicken flatbread pizza), at the new AMC Dine In Fashion District 8, hovering over the corner of 11th and Market Streets, up on the third level, two flights up from the Yards kiosk, three flights up from a Chick-fil-A.

County IDA to Vote on Tax Breaks For Clay Warehouse

Trammell Crow requested approximately $20 million in sales tax exemptions, $1.6 million in mortgage recording tax breaks and $49 million in property tax breaks.

* * *

The developer would also pay $28 million over 15 years as part of a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) agreement.

If approved, the town of Clay would still need to agree to change the zoning on the property in order for the deal to be completed.

The environmental review of the project was also approved Thursday. From parking and traffic flow to water and sound, the report broke down the impact construction will have on the area.

The report did project that it will cause a change in traffic flow, which has been a concern for local residents.

"In my whole history of government I've never been through a more thorough and comprehensive review as this," said IDA head Pat Hogan. "That means we're crossing 'T's and dotting 'I's. We want to make sure this becomes a part of our community. That means we're doing our due diligence."

We're all Earthgang | The Tech

Earthgang is the stage name of a pair of rappers, Olu and WowGr8. Known for their off-center sound and lyricism, the two have earned a large audience and have collaborated with big names in hip hop like J. Cole. To kick off the release of their latest album, Mirrorland , Earthgang came to Middle East in Cambridge to perform.

The first act of the show was Benji. With just over 2 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify, he's pretty unknown, but after watching his performance, I'm definitely going to check him out. His regular street clothes matched the informality of his short set, during which he playfully joked with the audience and dapped up the people in the front. It was clear he was still a bit of a rookie; he didn't necessarily do anything special, and he did have a pretty underwhelming beat drop in one of his songs after hyping it up to the audience. But he did perform a variety of songs that I could see myself chilling to in the future, with a lyrical sound somewhere between Chance the Rapper and Aminé.

Review: Harlem landmark 'The Apollo' stands the test of time - Los Angeles Times

The anecdotes are like music too, with spirited tales of nerves, awe and camaraderie from Smokey Robinson, Leslie Uggams, Patti Labelle and Pharrell Williams, and necessary context from backstage overseers like former owner Bobby Schiffman, current President Jonelle Procope and historian/tour guide Billy Mitchell. From these reverent insiders, and Williams' graceful stewardship, comes a lasting portrait of an artistic institution that's seen ups and downs but continues to thrive by bringing people together and getting the most out of many of them. It's hard not to forget an early clip of Ella Fitzgerald and what she heard way on that amateur night in 1934 when her then-unknown teenage self balked at following the crowd-slaying, legendary Edwards Sisters with her own meager dance routine.

National Conspiracy Writing Month: making 'fan fiction about reality' - The Verge

Next week, a tiny group of researchers will feverishly devote themselves to unmasking the shadowy forces that control the world! Are Conspiracy Theories on the Rise in the United States? news.yahoo.com / conspiracy - theories - rise - ...041000082.html In 2004, the Boston Globe stated that we are in the "golden age of conspiracy theory ." In 1994, the Washington Post declared it's the "dawn of a new age of conspiracy theory ." In 1964, The New York Times said conspiracy theories had "grown weed like in this country." The list could go on and on, but the gist is clear.!! Thirty days later, they will reveal a series of shocking conspiracies that only the most perceptive — some might even say paranoid — sleuths could possibly uncover. And if they succeed in their mission, nobody will believe a word of it.

The project is called National Conspiracy Writing Month, an unofficial spinoff of the long-running National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo) challenge. Where NaNoWriMo requires participants to write a 50,000-word novel, the inaugural NaCoWriMo asks them to produce a "deep, viable, and complete conspiracy theory." Its creator Tim Hwang hopes these fake plots can illuminate a pervasive cultural phenomenon — helping both participants and spectators understand how conspiracy theories emerge. He just hopes people don't take them too seriously.

Why Americans turn to conspiracy theories - The Washington Post

As the impeachment inquiry heats up, members of Congress and the media are left with the difficult job of untangling the conspiracy theory that seems to have driven the president's actions in Ukraine: a wild tale of a missing computer server whisked off to Eastern Europe for nefarious, if never entirely clear, purposes, and something involving Joe Biden, his son Hunter and, for good measure, China, too.

Although a strong vein of conspiratorial thinking courses through the right today, dismissing conspiracy theories as a recent product of the "paranoid style" of the American right underestimates their influence on our political culture as a whole. Just last week, for example, Hillary Clinton claimed without evidence that the Russians were grooming Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard for a third-party run aimed at damaging the eventual Democratic nominee.

Who Makes Money When a Bunch of Conspiracy Theorists Throw a Party at Trump's Hotel? — ProPublica

This month, about a thousand supporters of President Donald Trump gathered at his resort in Florida to discuss a variety of unsupported theories. There were panels on the "Russia Hoax" and "Voter Fraud in the USA." One speaker endorsed the theory that former President Barack Obama had planned to "turn over" North Africa to al-Qaida.

Alice Wilder of "Trump, Inc." was there during it all. ( Listen to the episode .) And we explored who profited from the three-day event.

Neither conference organizers nor the Trump Organization would say how much the festival paid to rent the Donald J. Trump Grand Ballroom and adjacent event rooms over the three days. Disclosures by the Republican National Committee and Republican Governors Association show they each spent about $400,000 for multi-day events at the resort.

Conspiracy theories go mainstream inside the GOP

WASHINGTON — Eight years ago, a vocal minority of Republicans peddled the conspiracy theory that Barack Obama wasn't born in the United States.

Now that the lead proponent of that debunked idea is the president of the United States and the head of the Republican Party, conspiracy theories have now gone mainstream inside the GOP.

The latest example: Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., appearing to argue on "Meet the Press" yesterday that the real interference in the 2016 election was from Ukraine.

"And so what President Trump's had to endure, a false accusation — by the way, you've got John Brennan on -— you oughta ask Director Brennan what did Peter Strzok mean when he texted Lisa Page on December 15th, 2016?" Johnson said.

He added, "What he wants is he wants to — an accounting of what happened in 2016. Who set him up? Did things spring from Ukraine?"

What's Up :: Skywatching Tips from NASA [Video] – NASA Solar System Exploration

October is a great time to try and capture an ICE GIANT. Now, these aren't mythical creatures. They're planets — the most distant of the major planets of our solar system, Uranus and Neptune.

The four giant planets of our solar system are not created equal. The gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn, are much bigger and way more massive, while the ice giants are so named because they contain a much higher amount of materials that typically form ices in the frigid depths of the outer solar system.

In October, both Uranus and Neptune are well placed in the late night sky. In fact, you can see all four giant planets in the same evening if you look for Jupiter and Saturn in the west after sunset, and then come back a couple of hours later to spot Uranus and Neptune. (Think of it as your own personal "Voyager mission." NASA's Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to have visited the ice giants so far, although scientists are eager to go back for a more detailed study.)

NASA studying future mission orbiting Pluto - HoustonChronicle.com

Four years after a spacecraft flew by Pluto, sending stunning images and data back to Earth, NASA has commissioned a study to explore spending even more time examining and exploring the dwarf planet.

The San Antonio-based Southwest Research Institute announced Wednesday it had received funding from NASA to study the feasibility and cost of a possible future Pluto orbiter mission.

The study will build on the success of the agency’s New Horizons mission, a space probe that launched in 2006. It was the first of its kind to get a close look at Pluto and its five moons, about 3 billion miles from Earth.

The Southwest Research Institute was part of the team that built that spacecraft, which is still exploring the farthest reaches of our solar system, having flown by Ultima Thule — a rock located a billion miles beyond Pluto that is found in the solar system’s Kuiper Belt — in January.

NASA Is Getting Serious About an Interstellar Mission | WIRED

Interstellar space exploration has long been the stuff of science fiction, a technological challenge that many engineers believe humans just aren't up to yet. The flare was the largest solar flare of the last decade.!! Indeed, the group says that if their mission is selected by NASA it could fly as soon as 2030.

"This is humanity's first explicit step into interstellar space," says Pontus Brandt, a physicist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory who is working on the interstellar probe study.

The basic idea for the interstellar mission is to launch a spacecraft weighing less than 1,700 pounds on NASA's massive Space Launch System rocket, which is expected to be ready by 2021. That will get it traveling across our solar system like any other probe. To give it another boost, it will then use a gravity assist to sling the craft to speeds well over 100,000 miles per hour. The team at the Applied Physics Lab is currently considering two types of gravity assists—a "plain vanilla" assist that swings the probe around Jupiter and another that swings it around the sun.

The First Cubesats to Mars Were Almost Lost Upon Arrival | Space

WASHINGTON — The first-ever interplanetary cubesats went dark just before their big moment last fall, spurring a last-minute rescue effort.

The two satellites, part of NASA's $18 million MarCO (Mars Cube One), mission were tasked primarily with demonstrating that tiny spacecraft can explore deep space. But team members also wanted the spacecraft to help relay communications from NASA's InSight Mars lander during the latter's touchdown attempt on Nov. 26, 2018.

Just a day before the landing, however, MarCO-B, "suddenly did not appear" during the remote check-in with engineers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), mission chief-engineer Andrew Klesh said during a presentation at the International Astronautical Congress here on Friday (Oct. 25).

* * *

The team spent all day looking at the fault tree to fix the issue, Klesh recalled. "At 6:05 a.m. [California time] the next morning, MarCO-B shows up just on time," apparently recovering automatically from an attitude-control issue, Klesh said. He proudly told mission managers at 6:30 a.m. that both cubesats were ready to go.
