Thunderdome: the Dutch rave with the world's fastest, hardest music | Music | The Guardian
Hardcore is one of the most liberated and liberating genres in dance music, encompassing a vast range of speeds, styles, and emotions. It creates euphoria from the extremities and isn't for everybody – which is why those that are in it, are in all the way.
The first Thunderdome event was held in an ice-skating arena in October 1992. It featured four relatively unknown DJs on the bill (who would go on to become superstars) and a colossal octopus fairground ride the team feared might crash through the ice rink. The promoters were two plucky 20-year-old schoolfriends from a village outside Amsterdam, and this was only the second major event they had ever attempted. Their first, The Final Exam, ended with the pair of them, brooms in hand, sweeping up the venue themselves afterwards. "The party finished at seven in the morning and we were still busy at 11 that night," recalls Irfan van Ewijk.

Going somewhere? Some places offer trips to the unknown
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — When Dena Espenscheid answered an advertisement on social media offering a weekend vacation to an unknown destination, her sister warned her she was going to get kidnapped.

The West Virginia Division of Tourism arranged the free trip earlier this month to promote the state as a perfect fall destination. The only clues: Show up in layered clothes and hiking boots and have a sense of adventure.
Five hundred people applied; 33 were chosen. They were told to show up at a Washington, D.C., bus station at 7 a.m. for the trip that would return them the next day.
The next clues came when they saw the bus, which was labeled "Destination Unknown" but had a West Virginia license plate. The sides were covered in a photo of red, orange and yellow fall foliage, "and we're heading west," Espenscheid said.
Authorities working to determine what caused a hazmat situation in Oberlin Tuesday
OBERLIN, Ohio — Officials in Lorain County and in Oberlin are still working to figure out what caused a hazmat situation that began at Walmart on Tuesday.
Chief Ryan Warfield of the Oberlin Police Department said someone called in about a man, saying he was going in and out of the store and acting suspicious. Warfield said the man will face theft charges. He's accused of stealing items from Walmart, including a chainsaw, a blower and a TV sound bar.
On Wednesday, Warfield said his police officer had been released and was at home. He said she was "doing great."

"I'm not a doctor, but the way they reacted, it's conducive to some kind of opiate-based thing," Warfield said.
Wray said the plan involves an incident commander calling the shots, as well as people assigned to communications, logistics, staffing and supplies.
