London Love Stories Meet Phoebe And Ollie Thirlwell Pearce

London Love Stories: meet Phoebe and Ollie Thirlwell-Pearce | London Evening Standard Evening Standard Home Home

Phoebe: We met at a festival in Haggerston Park and Ollie stuck by my side the whole day. I was wearing a skort... it was too much for him.

Phoebe: "He's very loud," was my parents' first impression — that quickly turned into Ollie joining and dominating our family WhatsApp.

Ollie: I told Phoebe I loved her at a London Grammar gig. I can't write her response in print.

Ollie: We both felt a real need to fix the food system and help people access genuinely nutritious, easy and delicious things that make them feel great, which is why we got on so well so quickly. When we first started FOGA, we would sit side-by-side packing plantshakes (our instant whole plant smoothies) by hand at 3am. Thankfully, we now have machines and a team.

The changing habits of London's shoppers | London Evening Standard Evening Standard Home Home

Ethical shopping is on all of our lips, but fast fashion is still booming. Kate Wills reports on how our complicated relationship with buying clothes is just the tip of the iceberg

The posters pasted up on Tube stations across London tell one story, the people in front of them another.

London is one of the shopping capitals of the world, but the way Londoners are buying clothes is, well, all over the shop.

'Shopping habits are in flux because consumers are in flux, especially millennials, who are the most contradictory generation of all time,' says Melanie Arrow, head of strategy at ad agency BMB. 'We say we care about the environment, but we engage with fast fashion. We say we want brands to do good in the world, and yet we'll queue round the block for the latest trainer and support the extremes of capitalism. But when it comes to the environment, the cultural mindset has definitely shifted. It's no longer hippy or alternative to take your own bags to the shops and use reusable cups or bottles; it's simply being conscious. And that is extending to our wardrobes.'

The actress and designer has a drink at The Connaught, calls Stella McCartney for a good time and finds the perfect read at Daunt Books

I like to switch it up. I love The Connaught — the bar is amazing, and I had some really fun times at The Soho Hotel in my youth…

It's got to be a rock star, probably someone from The Who or The Rolling Stones. I love Mick Jagger.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, ages ago. I took my kids; it was so long but they were completely captivated. It was quite a commitment as a parent, but my kids loved it.

“We’re always interested in places that have character to create a unique atmosphere,” said Olivier Flamant, chief executive officer of the Coya brand. “The 7th arrondissement seemed like a bit of a challenge: There aren’t many festive places in the area. We’re here to take people on a culinary adventure and add a bit of fun to the neighborhood.”
