Robots take up pole dancing at French night club | Euronews

Donning high heels and standing on elevated platforms at a dimly lit club, humanoid robots moved their hips as they pole danced in front of their majority male audience on Friday night (August 30) at Nantes' SC-Club.

The robots will make their official debut at SC-Club on Tuesday (September 3) and will be performing there for a month.

The two robotic dancers are there to mark the club's fifth anniversary and earn a spot in history as the first nightclub to have these dancers grace the stage.

Conceptualised by British artist Giles Walker, the "robot strippers" are made of plastic morsels of female mannequins and metal vehicle parts.

Can San Diego's Brain Corp. become the Microsoft of self-driving robots? - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Ten years ago computational neuroscientist Dr. Eugene Izhikevich walked away from a successful career in academia to co-found Brain Corp. with the ambitious goal of building artificial brains for robots.

These days when the Russian-born Izhikevich lands late at San Diego International Airport, he sometimes sees the fruits of that decision rolling along the airport halls.

The squat, half-ton robot powered by Brain Corp.'s technology isn't sexy. It scrubs floors at a leisurely pace.

But under the hood, it does things that many robots can't — navigate safely in unpredictable, public places with no driver.
