Dancing On Ice Star Teases Return To Show After Early Exit Due To Brutal Injury

Greg Rutherford has teased that he could return for the next series of Dancing On Ice after having withdrawn from the final after sustaining an injury hours beforehand.

The former Olympic athlete, 37, competed on the ITV show earlier this year. He was partnered with professional figure skater Vanessa James, 36, and they made it through to the final together, though Greg didn't get to perform in it.

He spoke about the experience and teased his potential return for whilst on Lorraine on Wednesday. He shared: ⁘Look, it's been sort of early stage discussed whether or not I come back and do one skate maybe on the opening show [next series]. I don't know whether or not it will happen. Of course, we have to make sure Vanessa definitely comes back. So I don't know if that's happening yet.⁘

Greg further commented: ⁘I loved [being involved]. And d'you know what? Yeah, I'd love to give it another go.⁘ Asked if he would be ⁘scared⁘ by host Lorraine Kelly, he replied: ⁘No. [...] I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did.⁘

And discussing the injury in the interview, he said: ⁘I'm a lot better, thank you. It's one of them things - I had to have surgery to repair the injury, so I had the pretty nasty hernias form and I also detached my lower left ab. Less than ideal.⁘

Speaking to Lorraine, he suggested that the injury was sustained when he dived through the legs of two skaters on Dancing on Ice whilst rehearsing a routine. ⁘I couldn't move [after]. It was one of the most bizarre things. I think because it was all in the stomach and you realise how much you use your stomach when it's damaged,⁘ he said.

It was announced just hours before the final in March that Greg - who had already sustained a groin injury earlier in the series -wouldn't be competing. His skating partner Vanessa shared the news with fans initially on Instagram .
