Prisms VR raises $12.5M to improve math literacy with virtual reality | VentureBeat

Prisms VR has found a way to improve math literacy using virtual reality headsets for visualization. And now the company has raised $12.5 million in funding.

Andreessen Horowitz led the round. Prisms launched in 2021 to bring problem-driven, tactile and visual learning to the math classroom, and it is the first educational technology platform to leverage VR to accelerate math proficiency in U.S. schools.

Northern Illinois University professor Jason Wahl-Alexander pulls a headset over his face, ready to transport to any number of far-flung alien locales, scenic vistas or even a virtual Oval Office.

But, he's not going there. He's going to a school gymnasium. Particularly, the gym in Anderson Hall, where he's an assistant professor in the kinesiology & physical education department. Wahl-Alexander teaches students training to be physical education teachers.

Virtual reality gaming startup to open 'holodecks' at The Boro in Tysons | FFXnow

(Updated at 10:25 a.m.) In case the apocalyptic vision of HBO’s “The Last of Us” adaptation isn’t immersive enough, you’ll soon be able to physically battle zombie hordes at The Boro.

According to a press release, Sandbox has leased a 7,500-square-feet space at 1656 Silver Hill Drive that will feature four private gaming rooms, or holodecks, which can each accommodate up to six players. The center is expected to open this summer.
