Video games for kids without the blood and guts | EO Parent Magazine | eastoregonian.com

Madden . Madden is a popular game of video football that allows players to play arcade, simulation or competitive football. You pick plays, get coaching advice, and can play against others online. I have read that the newest version contains virtually all rap music, most of which is not appropriate for kids. You can either get an older version or turn off the soundtrack.

Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together . These two survival games take place in the wilderness with different creatures, characters, seasons and biomes. Play by yourself, cooperate with friends or try your luck online. Recommended for no younger than middle school.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer shows why the game deserves to be remade - The Washington Post

Remaking Final Fantasy 7 was always a tricky bet. Fans want it. But everyone, including developer Square Enix, is anxious about whether going back to one of the most important video games of all time is just going to soil people's memories.

If the latest trailer released Friday morning is any indication, remaking the milestone 23 years later almost feels like a necessary step to preserving the game's unforgettable story for future generations. And by freeing it from the confines of being a single game, game director Tetsuya Nomura (who designed the original characters in the 90s) has gained the leeway to give its story the dignity it always deserved.

Video Game and Tech Unions: Q&A with the CWA's Emma Kinema

Intelligencer spoke with Emma Kinema, a game-industry veteran and one of CODE-CWA's organizers, about what they hope to achieve with the initiative.

It's a great variety of things. Even though I'm relatively young, I've definitely seen my fair share of crunch and toxic workplace culture, and studios having layoffs, and wage discrimination and pay gaps between gender and race, and poor health care, and on and on and on. Terrible standardization for crediting practices, so many different things.

Atari planning to open chain of video game-themed hotels

The video game pioneer — whose classic titles included “Pong,” “Asteroids” and “RollerCoaster Tycoon” — announced this week that its first hotel will break ground this spring in Phoenix.

The video game-themed hotels will "level up hotel entertainment with fully immersive experiences for every age and gaming ability" and will feature "the latest in virtual and augmented reality," Atari said .

The hotels will look like regular buildings from the outside, the company said — except for glowing red strips of light in the shape of the Atari logo running down the side of the building.

Mr. Game & Watch, widely reviled, has helped this Smash Bros.

By all standard measures, Enrique "Maister" Hernández Solís should be a Smash Ultimate superstar. He's vaulted from an unranked position on the last season of the Panda Global Rankings to sixth in the world in the current season. He hails from Mexico, an underrepresented region and the origin of Ultimate's reigning scion, Leonardo "MKLeo" Lopez Perez. He's only 19 years old. And best of all, he's the standard-bearer for a character no one else plays at the top level: Mr. Game & Watch.
