Dance Music Icon Kiesza Discusses Friday's EP Release Ahead Of August Rec Room Show

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Dance music artist Kiesa Rae Ellestad, better known by her stage name Kiesza released new music Friday morning, in the form of her six-track EP, "Dancing and Crying: Vol. 2." She will be playing Buffalo's Rec Room on Aug. 16 as part of her upcoming tour.

Kiesza promised a fun show that's a hybrid of a DJ set and a live performance, with literal nonstop music throughout the night.

"You're just really going to dance to a dance party, and it's set up to dance the whole night," she told WIVB earlier this week. "There's going to be a lot of new music in this show, and it's going to basically be 'Dancing and Crying [Volumes] 1 and 2.'"

Kiesza will be dancing with Jaylen Brown, a Los Angeles-based dancer, who also features on the song "Runway" on the new EP. She said they've been doing the show together for over a year, but now, the show will be expanding to incorporate new music. She also teased Volumes 3 and 4 of the project on the way, with a potential fifth volume as well, viewing the project like seasons of a TV series, rather than a movie. She added that some of the tracks initially intended for Volume 2 have been pushed back to Volume 4.

"I've been always kind of bridging the pop-dance world, and it's like: Do I make it for radio? Do I make it for the club? Do I find a version of it in between?" she said. "This one is for the dance floor, this is meant to flow from start to finish."

After a head injury sustained during a 2017 car accident sidelined her from making music for a number of years, followed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Kiesza said she is excited to connect with fans again.

The tour, which picks back up in Pittsburgh next week, followed by Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and more, before stopping in Buffalo midway through August, marks Kiesza's return to the midwest.
