JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Meridian musician and 2025 American Idol winner Jamal Roberts recently dropped a new single on Thursday.
Roberts' debut single, "Heal," helped put the soul artist on the map. The 27-year-old walked into American Idol as a hit-making artist; he won the competition back in May. According to Spotify, Roberts currently has more than 78,000 monthly streams. With his new single "Mississippi," he seeks to build on his career successes and pay homage to his home state at the same time.
Roberts is not the first Mississippi musician to rise to national acclaim in recent years. Country music trio Chapel Hart became popular after its 2022 appearance on America's Got Talent. The group earned fifth place in that year's competition.
No matter how popular the new song gets, Jamal Roberts will likely not stop singing anytime soon. On August 31, he will sing in the annual Spiritfest gospel concert in Greenville, South Carolina. He will then join Brandy ⁘ Monica on their tour in October.
